Snarkiness over the exclusion of anything beyond England's borders aside, I don't think it's a case of the NRL investing this side of the world that's needed, but for a pooling of resources and a genuine vision for the game as a whole. This is a step in that direction, but needs to be co-ordinated not as them investing in us (or vice versa - these things are cyclical after all) but as the game pulling together for the good of everyone.
Then we might get one codification of the rules for everyone. Which would be nice.

If we can't agree the rules for international competition then a investment from the NRL would only cause more confusion. IMO.

If the rules were changed a bit some NRL clubs could send over some 20 year olds on loan for a year or two.
I can't see them giving charity, because they are businesses, but most clubs now have 20 year olds that need to move from juniors to seniors and aren't quite ready for the NRL.
A couple of free players who are good enough for ESL would help ESL clubs, and would be good for NRL clubs too.

Thats what the nsw/qld cup is for.
