| If Wilkin became available in the next couple of years then of course I'd be glad to see him return. Beyond that, forget about it.

Without all the nonsense.
Wilkin is a good player with the ball in hand. The problem is that the WC showed us the way forward for RL and for a top class back rower it is about playing as a third/fourth prop as it were. Basically the responsibility is to make hard yards and tackle all day. Jon Wilkin doesn't do this, he is exceptional when the likes of Graham, Cayless, Cunningham and co have won the territory battle and made the yards but Wilkin is a passenger if this doesn't happen (for instance Leeds in the GF and for England in the WC).
There is no room in a top side for a showboat back rower, that role has gone. Wilkin either needs to bulk up massively and start taking the ball in and contiinuously topping the tackle count, revert to some form of a stand off or move to a side where they will allow a ball playing back row forward. The problem with this is that none of the top sides will have it so there would then be the possibility of seeing him back at HKR.
In terms of your post, nobody has won anything this season yet so that points matters not. Ive seen it all before with people writing St Helens off, you lot are just the next in a long line. We and Leeds still contain the majority of the best players in British RL, hence why we are the 2 favourites. Saints regularly start slowly as well so losing once to a poor side will not worry anyone. The game against Leeds in a couple of weeks will show us where we are and where we need to be, funnily enough I am quietly confident for the game.

Wilkin has the potential to be a top player. What he needs is the right position and right attitude.

You asked in a previous post what I had to say about Saints losing at home to yourselves. I answered that and I also posted my view on Wilkin (without any of the crazy bias because he's from the same area as you lot).
It is not rocket science cockle, this a forum for RL discussion.

| I think its obvious Saints are a team in decline.
Ageing stars simply can't put up the level of performance required be that week to week performances or 80 minute performances.
Players like Wellens and Gardner are found out to be the ordinary player they actually are now that Long, Cunningham, Gidley, Gilmour and the likes are feeling the effects of old father time on them

It was a good win and I enjoyed it at the time but it means nothing in the long term unless we keep putting in performances and getting the results. One swallow doesn't make a summer much like one good win doesn't make a season especially when its only the 3rd step of 27

Love quotes like this.
Saints have apparently been in terminal decline for the past 10 years.
We have all the youth to replace most and Lyon has virtually admitted he's coming back in a year or 2 to replace Gidley.
Jamie Lyon on his own would keep us much higher than HKR can ever reach.
Keep on treading water.

That is a big statement.
Leeds are the only side with the same quality as Saints in the league so I can see the Challenge Cup not being retained. To suggest another side will reach OT instead of Saints is a big call and one I think is far from definite.

| Back on thread, dont see where Wilkin would fit to be honest. I know he's 'one' of ours but I think we have players just as good. Murrell at 13 and Newton, Galea etc at 2nd row.
Sorry, dont want him.
