Perhaps if precedents had been set in the past by clubs when players had been convicted of violence, we might have a system in place to deal with it, instead we have this 'debate' everytime it happens.

You're not allowed to say that. He is clearly a serial violent offender and potential murderer. It's not safe to walk the streets (unless he gets sacked by Rovers then everything will be ok again).

as said before can't defend what he's done, but, unfortunately this sort of thing happens week in week out, he's been sentenced, deal with it!

If Rovers do take the action of sacking him, I hope they get the RFL to refuse any other club permission to sign him, if not what would be the point, the player will not be punished just the club. I would imagine Rovers will take advice from the RFL and if they say they cannot prevent him signing elswhere, why would we sack him.

Ive worked in town for a number of years and have seen incidents like this. Ive also seen a far less severe incident lead in death. Cockayne is a lucky boy, and a rovers player or not i would have been a little annoyed about this as you can tell.

Dont think Rovers or Hull need to even be mentioned here. Its not Rovers fault that he's done what he's done. The simple matter here is that he has. If you actually take the trouble to read the majority of posts about this from FC fans they are saying that Raynor was also lucky not to get sent down. The fact that there was no CCTV released publicly is irrelevant.

Raynor committed a serious racially motivated offence and was rightly punished. BUT the severity of the sentences reflects the severity of the offences. Raynor 6 months suspended for 18, Cockayne 51 weeks suspended for 2 years. In the eyes of the legal system (which may be an ass

) Cockayne's is the more serious. End of.

And Berrigan's bitch has a point, in that the media have had the unfortunate opportunity to show RL in a positive light (with the sport joining together after Leon Walker's death) but the timing of the Cockayne case (and it could have been anybody) has put the mockers on that and the media can go back to portraying the sport in a poor light.
