Quote ="nick hkr"Performance wise we're nowhere near IMO. We've been scrappy and got lucky with things like Drew going off injured in the first set of the game against Wakey and Orr going off in the second half at Quins...etc.
Nowhere near what? SL games being a cakewalk? Shows how far Rovers have come! We've been without our exceptional and inspirational captain for the large majority of the season, making our 8-1-3 start even more remarkable.
Today we'll sing about going to Wembley but we've played a poor Celtic side and been drawn against Sheffield which should be a walk in the park however when we meet Saints/Wigan...etc thats when we'll see if we are Wembley class.
I suspect we are currently better than Hudds, Catalans and Hull were when they reached the last 3 finals. Rovers would not look out of place at Wembley.
Getting the results maybe what matters in the SL but if you want to be a consistent side like Leeds, Saints, Bradford and Wigan you need to do more than scrape ugly wins against sides that are unlucky with injuries.
We're currently above 3 of them, a decent way into the season. Part of their consistency has been down to scraping ugly wins when it doesn't come easily.
Many neutrals say that our high flying season just shows that the Super League is losing quality...
Mostly fans of 'big' clubs whose noses have been put out of joint by upstarts like Rovers, Quins, Cas etc. If those 'big' clubs really are going backwards - good. The trophies you win are no less shiny for that. The Championship winning Rovers teams of the 80s weren't as good as what we have now - but in one very important sense they were better, because they beat the opposition they faced [ithen[/i and won trophies.
The dominance of the Big 2, the Big 4 before them and before that Wigan, could equally be evidence of a lack of quality to challenge them at those times.
I hope our coaches and players share your attitude and desire for further improvement. As a fan I'm going to continue in bemused exultation, wondering if it can last. Could we, might we, maybe, possibly, perhaps win a trophy sometime this year or next? I don't want to jinx it, but it isn't impossible.
