the club has made great strides with its scholarship system , but when getting to 16 with no contracts available , lads are having to go to other professional clubs to further their development , when a bit of commitment from the club ,they would have liked to have stayed with doncaster to progress though to the first team, and i feel the club letting its future slip away and is losing some very good players , and if super league clubs interested in taking these players they must be doing somthing right

, but said contracts not available which all have worked hard for , so lads a bit down and travelling to training with nothing to aim for taking its toll, the club needs to sort things out as i see bringing our own players though the system the best way forward. i do honestly feel at least 2 of them are good enough to make the grade and hope the club realise this, because other clubs will take them i am sure .the scholarship season ends in september so they are still with the club till then

Why dont they progress to the reserves? Reece Bailey is only 16 (maybe just 17, not sure) and our kid was just 17 when he first played for them. Its a good introduction to open age rugby (much less likely to get your head knocked of by some old b45t4rd with nowt better to do on a saturday than you are in the Yorkshire League). And the club can monitor their progress better.

i believe pat howdell the scholarship manager is trying to sort this out ,he wants them to stop at their club next season and monitor them ,and bring them to the reserves next season if they are up to standard. the only problem with that is if no contract ,other clubs can pick them up as free agents and with them in the under17 yorkshire league plenty of scouts about the best will get picked up, i think its best to sign them now and not risk losing them,as the club must have seen enough of them to base an opionion, and i know the lads want to stay and play for doncaster ,but its about the club wanting them

my son one of the lads on scholarship and when we first come down to doncaster we had high hopes and the club was very positive and made us all welcome and valued , alot gone on since then with owners change etc and dave marshall has had alot to sort out.he is a good man and cares about this club and may be this is one part of running club that has had to wait while setting up reserves team and finances been tight but these lads are your future and its not about money as they dont expect alot, my son would rather play at doncaster where he would be valued and be part of this club growing stronger and aiming higher in the future, hkr have been around them but they will use the lads, and i know this as i have been down that road with them when i played

There is a lot going on at the moment and the 15s have some very good players coming through and i believe a super league club is chasing some of these players. Doncaster dont have the finances to sign players that young as there is no way they are ready to play first or reserve grade yet so they would be signed and unable to play for at least 12 months which is not good for the players. Three myton players have quit the scholarship recently is that the commitment the club needs, maybe the club made a mistake in signing these players

the reason these lads did stop coming down was due to the way the club have handled the situation, to tell the lads no contracts were to be given was bad enough but at 15 parents should have been present,i wasnt.we was told scholarship ended april and things change all the time. we have brought the lads though to training in our cars paid by ourselves,all winter never late, and attended auction night when thick snow and we attended matches to show support ,so you question commitment .the lads felt let down , and my lad one of them from myton and have spoken to pat to have a meeting and he is returning to finish his scholarship.if super league clubs interested in these players they must be good players and then the club should show a bit of faith in them.the idea of a scholarship system is to bring players though,not get to 16 and end other wise the club is only offering training and shouldnt be called a scholarship

the idea of bringing players from other areas is to improve the standard of the scholarship in doncaster, and the players pat has brought in has done that,now that has happened you have to keep your best players or its been a waste of time ,why do all the hard work for other clubs to come along and pick off the better ones

so i dont think signing these players was a mistake if it improves standards

this is quite a late reply to what you are talking about here, but you on about doncaster scholarship here, and all you've talked about is the hull players, there good yes but what about looking to your home grown talent i'm saying home grown what i mean is from round doncaster as it wont be just money we would love to represent our town, it's my last year on scholarship and like everyone else i'd love the opportunity to play pro [uBUT IS IT REALLY GOING TO COME AT DONCASTER OR DO I HAvE TO LOOK ELSEWHERE?[/u

scholarships should bring local talent to the club, the only problem is south yorkshire isnt as strong as in other areas, thats why hull lads came to doncaster to help raise the standard . we came though to doncaster in our own cars at own expense and as you said its not all about money but to be given a chance in pro game.with the problems at the club it doesnt look good, and you will probably know our problems with scholarship ended in march as there wasnt anything at the end of it for the lads, pat said he would be in touch about scholarship running though to september but not been in touch since then, your luck may change as 2 of our lads have been playing for hull kr foundation academy, so dont give up hope , as you never know who may be watching you ,just enjoy your rugby, good luck

Sorry to go on, but don t you get fed up with how things have been done & how people have been treated in the past and unfortunately recently.

This is the time to step up to the plate with a Supporters Trust and run the club between us to promote young Doncaster players and give them the opportunity to play for their home town club.

What would be the template for a club run by a supporters trust and how would it be financed, who would have the final say in matters and how would a club official who was not up to the job be removed from office.

Only asking because i'm sure it would take a lot more looking after than just a supporters club.

Each member would have one vote. A commitee/board would be democratically elected by the trust members, and would answer to them in turn.
