It just states the club are looking at bringing in up to 6 more players before the new season. Also goes on to say the club had to make some tough decisions after the defeats to Leigh, Fax and Featherstone. Cullen says he had to see after the defeats who was fighting for a contract. Kind of contridicting really as i believe Varkulus and Hulme were our best players in all of them defeats.
Quote VIKINGS sporting director Paul Cullen has revealed a decision has now been made on which players will be retained and released ahead of the club’s return to Super League.
An official announcement confirming who has been kept on for 2012 will be made next week.
Cullen said: “The official process is well underway and a number of players have been told either way.
“It wouldn’t be right for me to reveal how many players will be staying or going at this stage because not everybody has been told yet.
“Certain players have been troubled by the uncertainty in recent weeks and it has affected their performances, so as we go into the final stage of the season it is vital that they have everything cleared up in the next week for their own mental preparation.
“We have given every player as much opportunity as we possibly could to state their claim for a contract.
“But after going on a 10-match unbeaten run we just lost three in a week and in that process we have had to make some decisions.
“It was never going to be pleasant but we have done it as professionally and as genuinely as we possibly could do.”
So far the club has announced that 10 existing players have signed new deals for at least one more season.
A further eight new recruits, all of whom have Super League experience, have also been confirmed.
And Cullen has revealed the club is looking to bring in up to six more new faces before the start of next season.

| Correct that was pre Isa, Clarke & Hanbury. Tbh I still expect more than another 3 in as I think that was mostly where they hoped to be by now.
At least one half back (Tim Smith) another hooker (Scott Moore / Fisher) a big prop (Andy Lynch / Ewan Dowes). A talented high rated back row (Glen Morrison / Rob Purdham) and then yes maybe another wing but tbh I'd be happy with Penny there. Tyrer also.

| Got be more than 3 surely? another prop is a must as is a half back and winger. Were also lacking a loose forward imo and I wouldn't be happy with Allen being stuck in that position. If we sign Tyrer 1 more winger will be fine. A player like Tim Smith to fill the half back role should do nicely and we need another big mean fecker up front.

| What I quite like is that we can already name a full 17 with players in spots they would be comfortable in. So hopefully further signings will only strengthen what in honesty is a pretty tidy squad already

| 1. Shaun Briscoe
2. Paddy Flynn
3. Willie Isa
4. Chris Dean
5. Patrick Ah Van
6. Rhys Hanbury
7. ................
8. Ben Cross
9. Lloyd White
10. ..............
11. Hep Cahill
12. Frank Winterstein
13. Ben Kavanagh
14. Ben Davies
15. Jon Clarke
16. Kurt Haggerty
17. Steve Pickersgill
That would be my first choice thus far with Clarke coming from the bench as rotation for Lloyd White, Another mean fooker up front and another utility forward should see the pack complete. A scrum Half and winger will see the backs complete with Steve Tyrer also signing as cover.
So i make that 4 signings still to come!
Elliot Kear/Amos Roberts?
Tim Smith?
Andy Lynch?
Matty Blythe?

| Also at a glance (inc Cru excemptions) we have only used one quota spot with Ben Cross and 3 non fed trained spots Ah Van, Isa and including Cahill for now as signed pre Cru withdrawal so we have plenty of scope on signings too.

No doubts but visa has to be virtually impossible as hasn't had a clean record since rejected one in 2009 especially of convicted for his current drink driving case.

Those sort of players are certainly heading in the right direction. Some of them might not be world beaters but certainly better than most if not all of the players anounced so far. Think it needs at least a couple of high profile signings to get the season ticket numbers moving again.
