one of the worse if not worse fullback i have ever seen. we need a fullback this is our weakest postion. Would never pick Yates again.

Bit harsh, needs to step up a level though, unfortunately at a lower Champ side he'd have a few more chances and game time you won't get at Widnes unless your performing at the top level! If we had more cover at full back i'd like to see him spend a month or so with a champ one side see i can get his confidence back, just a slight hesitation in big games can make a huge difference unfortunately for Scott yesterday, though chasing back and tackling he did very well and returned it quite solid when had bal in hand.

I agree mate.I think a loan to a championship 1 side and play regular at fullback may build his confidence.He is very hesitant and that worries me for a fullback.You never see broadbent,royston,donlan hesitant.Yes full backs make mistakes but hesitancey is a bad trait.

Maybe too much pressure too soon, I have watched him play for a while, he seemed to get a place at full back over Jonny Leather who at the time, I thought was equally as good, I think he went to Blackpool for game time and experience I guess, not sure if he is still there but could have come good I though.

Jonny Leather is at blackpool and doing very well i believe.Maybe Yates is a good player, but not at top end championship, or superleague.Hope he proves me wrong, but i do not think quite good enough to be a top full back at this level.

All very harsh on here. The lad has had good games for us, deserves a little more respect than he is getting. It's true we might have to make a tough decision in regards to him but to call him the worst ever just shows a complete lack of respect, knowledge and tact.

Leather won Champ 1 young player of the season last year, shows how good he went for them!

J20 that true, but because a good championship 1 player that does not mean a good championship player.Dewsbury smashed championship 1, but not smashing this league mate.Yates is good, but unsure good enough for top 4 teams for championship or superleague.Superleague we should be aiming for mate.

Yates isnt good enough, he will be released at the end of the year and will most probably end up at Rochdale. He's a good lad but to indecisive as a full back to ever make a good player.

Thank you offthecuff and J20, and Mr D, sorry if my post came across as disrespectful to Yates, he was no worse than half the team in the match, no finger pointing from me, infact one tackle he saved a certain try, I think we forget sometimes that 2 years ago many of our players were playing U18's and U'21s.

but to call him the worst full back is a bit strong
I was a bit nervous when to ball went in the air but not half as much as i used to be when Duncan Platt was playing full back

I thought that Scott’s main problem was his poor defence. Well it was much better today. He really needs to get his positional sense and confidence under the high ball sorted. If he can do that, he’ll be OK.

I’m not giving up on him just yet but, if he doesn’t show significant improvement in these areas soon, he may not get another chance. I can’t see him being at Widnes next season, if he cannot put his short comings right.
