Widnes Vikings have this evening released the entire 2010 squad in a sensational development at the Cheshire Club. Terry O'connor has revealed that a press conference will be at the Stadium tomorrow where it is expected that the Australian national team has signed up on dual contracts to play for the Vikings. O'connor said "when dual contracts come into discussion i thought why choose Wigan or St Helens when we could go for the cream of the crop and choose the Australian national team" the RFL has given there blessing to the Vikings and Widnes have also brought in Des Johnson a financial expert from Barrow to cover the contracts. Coach Paul Cullen was ecstatic "you know what you get with aussies, elbows and knees and the reverse pivots of the highest order". All existing players have been paid up and are free agents. Gotta say I'm a bit worried at the moment. I'd settle for mid table as it is right now. Hopefully my fears are ill founded.

Worrying at the minute but, all it would take is 2 or 3 signings for us to be back on track. I find my self getting a bit carried away on the trust board saying we need to make signings etc, but when I actually thought of who we have for the 1st 17, its not all that bad.

Now I know there is talk of Morrison, Smithy and Webbo all leaving, but as things stand, we're only a few players short of a decent side - maybe not much strength in depth, but not too shabby considering all of the worry.

Also I wonder if Cullen and SO'C might secretly want to let some of the top earners go so they have more money to play with for re-building? I guess it all depends on just how much Smithy and Webbo are on.

Wow looks like you lot are getting left behind by the top teams in the division.

As things stand I'm now not too worried... I'm pretty sure that Morrison will be leaving and it seems sensible to me that Webster should head back over the hills, which would free up some considerable space under the cap.

But I'm not surprised that there have been a few departures. The loss of Duffy, Hartley and Dodd don't really worry me all that much. Fletcher is more of a concern.

I think what it's important to remember is that the team on the park last year was not Paul Cullen's and without one or two players in that team we did under perform. I think we will be looking to balance the team out so that losing one or two of the players will not have such a dramatic impact. There will be quite a few signings yet.
One or two that will really make the difference. We have not announced our marquee signings yet!!!

We're planning for a long term future in sl, not short term gains u get from signing dad's army.

I have faith in Cullen and S'oC to do the right thing as they have not done much wrong thus far

Despite my trolling to the contrary it's way way way too early yet to be finalising squads. There's loadsa time and plenty of quality about.

The Wellens rumour has already been quashed by Tez saying he would take up about 40% of the cap alone.

There is no point in picking starting 17's as the squad is far from finished.

Sign him anyway for a laugh

To be honest tho, the statements from the club have said we will go with a settled 20 man squad and the rest will be dual contract players. At the last count we already had 22 players (if you include Morrison), so the recruitment might be a lot more finished than what we think. Admittedly of the 22 players, that includes 6 or 7 young players who are on the fringe of the 1st team, but with the rumour about McGilvary and Wellens (believe it when I see it), I can't see us getting that many more permanant signings.
