His Mentors in God Smithy, King Cullen and Crusher Cassidy will iron out his faults.

The lad has skill and plenty of it, he needs to get fitter and i think he will be a great player for us.

I must say that I'm a little underwhelmed at the signing. His fitness and discipline are a concern. Hopefully that area will be dealt with as soon as he gets on the training pitch.

He did make some classy plays, but drifted in and out of the game and just didn't stamp his authority in the way Duffy can. Hopefully that is just as a result of his fitness.

We'll see.

But we have excelled all my hopes for the season with what we have won.......


Seriously you must be making a lot of cut backs to sign someone of the `quality` of Coyle.

To be fair, he won't be one of the key players, and will fill the role that Duffy did this season, as cover for the half-back position and to spell Mark Smith.

Perhaps you should wait and see what our squad is like after we've finished recruiting, before passing judgement of how much we are cutting back by. The club has stated that we will be spending upto the full cap.

Unlike Halifax, we don't see the need to make or bust pensioner signings like Aizue and Gene.... Are Halifax going to be the dad's army of the Championship next year?

Ho ho ho. Amazingly funny new material viz a viz Gene & Aizue. With combined ages of 74 this springs up hilarious jokes which have never been heard whilst they played at their previous club. Cannot believe a club of your standing is signing Coyle. If your recruitment was half as good as your gates etc, you'd walk this league. Coyle is a very average player and not worthy of pulling on the Widnes shirt. Duffy is twice as good. I cannot understand why you continue to sign such ordinary players. We all know about the supposed box ticking etc,but there is surely nothing better as a fan than actually winning the league. With a bit more brain when it comes to recruitment, you would surely bog this league, rather than finishing 6th, 4th etc. I cannot believe a club like yours does not really ever look like winning the league these days. It is sad that you continue to recruit poorly and waste your undoubted potential

Coyle is being brought in as cover and to give Mark Smith a breather.

In the year we finished 6th, I recall we'd only just reformed as a business and recruited very late, with a 9 point deduction. This season we've won the NR cup after our previous coach recruited a very unbalanced squad.

Thomas Coyle with the right training and conditioning will be a very good addition to the squad and with several more signings to come, I'd wait before passing judgement. This will be the first team built by Paul Cullen and I've no doubt will be good enough to compete at the top.

You've got to remember aswell that we will be sticking to the reduced salary cap of £300K so we cant afford to go and spend daft money on the likes of Rooney, Gene and Aizue.

You would think a businessman with the acumen of Ste Oconnor would have found a way round it by now.





On Coyle again, i see everyone keeps saying about getting him fit and attitude, well Wigan couldnt sort him i doubt Widnes can. I remember when we had him on loan and had to send him back because he wasnt good enough to get in the team. Reminds me a bit of Hemmingway.
