Just interesting to see how anyone can suggest Haggerty's late tackle would warrant a heavier ban than something like that, you see it week after week. It's bad, but it's not exceptional.

That'll teach me for just reading one post and not the whole thread. I can't help with the Smithy incident but I bet those Parky blokes would have it.

The worst part about the the Rowley incident was that it was premeditated and even a week before the game there were threats and boasts on here about how the Leigh players were going to get Smithy.

You lot slay me with the Rowley incident, I'll remind you Leighs other players got bans too,it was a total of 9 matches for that incident.

Differance is Haggerty could of seriously hurt the Sheffield player, a man of his size coming at you at speed with a stiff arm when you are'nt looking.

Worse incident of its type I've seen for sometime and you lot know if it was done against Widnes you would be saying the same.

Please let the Rowley incident drop I know he is not proud of it and Rowley definately took more than he gave throughout his career.

What he done was was cowardly and it wont be forgotten, it is the worst incident i have ever seen at a Rugby match. It is also the only time i have ever considered jumping on the pitch to help Mark. Pinning his arms behind his back while he layed into his face is disgraceful and IMO that was planned directly against mark.

People on the rugby field will get riled and seek retribution but It was still a despicable challenge. If he had received a lengthier ban then I would not have complained.

There really is no contest though with the assault on Mark Smith and I will never forget the Rowley incident. I agree with VM it was the most sickening thing I have seen on a pitch.. maybe even on city streets during nights out. It was planned and plotted between the three players which makes it even more barbaric. If a few of us had gone with our gut instinct that day there would have been a horde of Widnes fans running onto the pitch.

Planned and plotted, and how do you know this, can you honestly believe 3 players got together and said,"look it will take 3 of us to sort Smith out,you two hold his arms whilst I hit him". Again I'm not condoning what happened but come on get serious, no way was it planned before the game.

I have no doubt that his name was mentioned numerous times before the match by both the coaching team of Leigh and the players themselves. When a fight normally kicks off you tend to see players just flying in with punches everywhere, what happened to Mark was planned and malicious.

It wont be forgotten.

I'm not saying anything like it was planned before the game.. but three players (knew to) hang back.. two players each (knew to) grab an arm while one man pummelled Smith..
That takes a conversation, maybe during the last break for a score, maybe during time off for a penalty or an injury... It's still planning!!

I also note that some of you have become mind readers as well, put your predictions down on what dastardly deed Leigh are "plotting" for our next game. I've heard Rowley has spoken to a Ninja to sneak into Smiths house and put some time delay drug on his pillow that will activate 75 minutes into the game and result in him losing the ability to catch the ball, knocking on under the sticks Leigh win the scrum and score the winning try.

You were the ones coming onto this board and spouting from your moral high ground. It's true that a Leyther's idea of what is thugish is probably quite overwhelming to the rest of us.. releasing a bear onto the pitch maybe. There is plenty of niggly, dirty, rough play that goes on in the game.. Whilst this is probably tame to you only once have I seen a situation in all my years of watching the game where two men hold another mans arms behind his back whilst a third player punches him repeatedly in the face...

The problem is, twitch, we had someone coming on here saying Haggerty's ban was insufficient. You see challenges like these quite often in the game. They're not good, but they're not the worst thing anyone has ever seen.

I was merely putting this into context. The most cowardly thing I've ever seen on the pitch only recieved a three matches ban. Why should Haggerty's ban exceed that?

I am with VM and IET, I was the closest I've ever been to running on the pitch, and I'm not violent or aggressive or any of those things, it was just so disgusting to me to see a man pummelled like that I needed someone to intervene. You're not going to convince me that it wasn't that bad and I will never forget it.

I was just trying to put some realism into the never ending Rowley/ Smith scenario, if the Dark Satanic Mill was still up I'm sure someone would of seen a puff of smoke from the top floor window,its gotten into the realms of a Kennedyesque conspiritory plot with some.

Anyway I'm as bad as some of you by trying to defend my club and one thing I can't let go is the suggestion that the Leigh coaching staff were involved in Smiths attack, that is got to be taking reality to its limit.

I will still talk to Widnes fans home and away and I'm sure Smith and Rowley have had a drink at the bar,so lets agree to disagree and move on to what should be a good season for both our clubs.
