More creativity from the halves would be nice. Move away from the kick to the corner play every 5th tackle

Without wanting to state the obvious (higher league finish/silverware) then I'd like to see us be better at applying pressure. For too long every 5th tackle has just been a high kick to the corner. It would be nice to see us just continue to apply pressure by putting the ball in goal and forcing drop outs. Something we don't seem to do very often.
I also hope we are much improved in the ball retention department. Too many games last year we made way too many errors and quite often in our own 20. Really need to improve on that if we want to challenge for anything.

Tend to agree though for me Gale is the bigger worry in terms of keeping fit and on the field as Reynolds was probably a little bit rushed in to playing at times last season and his knee injury was just very unlucky as it could & would have happened to anyone that ended up getting put in that position in a tackle. Would be nice that for once we get a player that stays fit after injury troubles with other clubs once they come to us rather than it tending to be the other way around.

My expectations aren't huge but minimum for me is a big improvement in home form, discipline, attitude and seeing evidence of new attacking and defensive structures and playing as a team for 80 mins. I think the playoffs are also a bare minimum requirement too.

If I'm being honest I do think the loss of Griff affected us more than we appreciated at the time too.

With Gale in place of Sneyd I'd be very disappointed if we were not significantly more creative as his inclusion alone should make a difference but having a pre season with him in the squad should give BH plenty of food for thought in terms of attacking structures. I'm also looking forward to seeing what Lovodua can bring too with his style and pace. Those two additions give us a much more dimension in terms of play instead of the static play that was just too predictable.

Avoid relegation, and a good cup run is my hope.

Unfortunately the propensity for injury of our first choice players and lack of depth thereafter is concerning, and our run in last year was a disaster. Potentially starting the season without our best props and multiple players returning after long and serious injury probably implies a difficult opening to the season so my expectations at this point are minimal.

I think just to have a Club to follow at this time is a boost, we obviously don't have the money to improve our depth significantly, so injuries will kill us if they bite as hard as the last two seasons.
If we start well and then get Evans involved from a winning platform, we could end up playing rugby with a smile on our faces, which may also translate over to us supporters. If we start poorly and rack up a list of injuries, then yes, we may well be glad to stay in SL, but hopefully the RL Gods smile on us for a change.

On good days Hull will impress and look the part. It'll fool a lot of you for a while.

Having said that if Gale should find a return to form and fitness of his early Castleford days and Reynolds can also turn the clock back then maybe you'll have me eating my words.

More likely you will come to realise that for all his faults you have lost your main matchwinner in Marc Sneyd.

That's a rather simplistic view to take as Sneyd may have dropped the odd drop goal or 2 to win us a game but his defence was poor. inevitablly conceding tries as well to lose games but that can be said of all players, the sum of a team should be greater than it's parts and is so a collective effort, not down to just one player or play.

What Sneyd did do through no fault of his own is make us 1 dimensional and predictable and Hodgson has taken action to rectify this.
We will be a different proposition. I don't think we'll miss Sneyd as we're going in a different direction but our season all depends on the fitness of our halves, who can be described as sicknotes at best.

Sneyd stopped being our match winner last season, i think the club may have just discovered when to release a player at the correct time.

I can’t see anything better than last season as Gale and Reynolds will barely play together
Ben Mac will likely be still learning his trade, so not expecting much there.
BH won’t play Jake at 6 unlike Wayne Bennett did for England a while back.
Once we lose a couple the heads will go down again

Whilst there is a possibility that both Gale and Reynolds may miss games I do feel strangely confident that they'll play far more games than they'll miss (and together).
The added benefit of Gale is his leadership on/off the field which again will be a big plus. As I mentioned on a previous post so many times we have signed players come with very good injury records but end up hardly playing through injury and vice versa so hopefully Gale will remain pretty fit. As for Reynolds his knee injury could and would have happened to any player when ending up it the position he did in that tackle, the other injuries I think he was rushed back with his hamstring due to lack of creativity in the side and his absence through Covid was just one of those things.
Hopefully this season we will not be so reliant on one player and have more structures in place to not only break opposing teams down but also give them more to think about in defence other than waiting for the kick to the corner.

Disappointed when sneyd left. But if Gale and Reynolds keep fit it will bring us another dimension to our attack. Looking forward to the new season.

Sadly Gale and Reynolds will only play 8 matches together and Ben Mac will be busy being steady and uninspiring
