Is anyone going? I had considered it but saw in the wail the other day that we were only sending a squad of mainly fringe players which has been borne out by the squad announced today whilst cas have announced a strong side so can only see a one sided pasting so not bothering going myself

Not going mainly due to work and then family get together for dinner in the afternoon


Seeing our squad I'm not too disappointed not going. Cant see cas playing most of their first teamers for more than half the game either. Just a money spinner match imo

Makes it a bit more exciting for me. The kids will be buzzing and we get chance to look at our next big stars. Litten, Turgut, Masi etc eill benefit massively from this game as well as exposure in some of the other friendlies

Interesting to see a trialist in Marvin Lee playing ex Rovers, now playing for Skirlaugh, we have done well out of signing players from Skirlaugh later in their career.

Think we will get beat easy looking at the two squads, but like Wilde has said, it will be interesting to see how the fringe and young players go.

I see Up the Cream are reporting him as having signed. I think they do a good job, but aren't exactly a trustworthy source of news. Looks kind of like they've just seen his name in the squad and made the assumption. Is he definitely just a trialist?

As for the game. I think it will be competitive enough. Cas have named a stronger squad than us for sure, but everyone is rusty at this time of year, seasoned pros and youngsters alike, and we have a smattering of first teamers to keep us in check. It's a good chance for those fringe players to get a taste of better opposition. I thought Connor would be involved for sure (anyone know if he has a knock or anything?) and hoped we might see a Kelly cameo, but never mind. Didn't expect to see Carlos' name. Be interesting to see if he plays centre or in the halves.

I'm going, my FIL is up he wants to a game, but while we are very likely to get quite comfortably beaten, I'm looking forward to seeing how the young lads go.

I was guessing about Lee, be interesting to see how he goes as I Know little about him, probably got a part time one year deal to see how he goes. I'd play Carlos at 6 and go with this as starting backs.

don't know why we bother if where going to put half a side out and get stuffed what good does it do ?

At the game, some promising stuff from the youngesters but no match for a full Cas side.

Might even up in second half if they bring off some of their senior squad.

24-0 at halftime. Hull have been poor. Cas playing like it's a cup final

rubbish to say they've been poor but it's men vs boys at the moment. Really not sure what we are suppose to learn from this.

To see how the fringe players are and how they will handle a competitive match,don't forget nearly all of the 1st team squad played all but 1 match last season and what would the point in slinging them in.It always happens on here during friendlies...people moaning

I'm not moaning I'm asking the question what's the point in playing a young side against a full strength team and get hammered what does that do for us or our mental toughness and confidence why don't the coaches come to an agreement about the standard of side they are putting out because what do Cas take from this themselves, and I am now waiting for a cas fan to come on and say they where at half strength themselves lol

It was men v boys until the last 15 minutes or so.
It was to see if any of the youngsters/fringe players are capable of making the step up.
Some people need a dose of realism.
Griffin and Michaels gave a good account of themselves as expected but I was impressed with young Wray.

Don't get friendlies on boxing day. It's nostalgic tripe in my opinion. A nod to the past. It's a long way to seasons start and hell of a lot of pre season work to be done yet. It could have had slight use with a competitive team out. Kids v cas at cas never stacks up to a useful run out imo.Seeing kids is great but they really need working in along side 1st teamers. Not on mass v a top end team.

Don't agree. They were poor for a lot of the game, including some of the first teamers. But these things happen in friendlies with a young team. Hopefully they'll have learned something today, as will radders. On the plus side Litten was excellent when he eventually came on.

Yer you said that first time hope Cas got something out of it a more competitive match with equally balanced teams would have been better is my point but you seem to miss that

Well that's your opinion and you're entitled to it but I don't agree and I guess you didn't go.

The friendly was a means of generating income and a chance for people like me to enjoy a game of rugby.

Looking at the team sheet probably only a couple of our starting 13 in there, Griffin and Michaels (based on us starting Shaul, Michaels, Fonua, Griffin, Talanoa, Kelly, Sneyd, Taylor, Houghton, Watts, Minichiello, Manu, Ellis). How did they go, and Green, Bowden, Hadley? Was Hadley hooker?
