You sometimes get decisions against you at bad times, and we had a few of those tonight.
Half time team talk was the easiest of his career, these are a basic one out rugby team and if we complete our sets and keep them down that end we'll be fine.
"Did Jordan Abdull play well?" "I'll leave you to make your own judgement. I'm not calling a kid out on air. You saw the game."
"What was said afterwards?" "I'll keep that in house."

That is a very difficult question for a coach to answer, but the highlighted part essentially does part of the very thing it says it is trying to avoid. Completely understand and agree with him not wanting to get drawn in to criticising his player in detail in public, but he has effectively answered the question in the negative.

Totally agree, hung him out to dry as he has done with Shaul, Lineham, Naughton and others but never Talanoa, never Yeaman. If he still has the dressing room it's a miracle, I'd hate him if he was my boss.

to be fair to B Smith he has only been in charge of 3 games as he only arrived in the country the day before the Leeds match. But in each of those 3 games we have actually been competitive, which is something we had not achieved in a single SL game since March.

Now I'm all for showing the opposition the respect they deserve, but did we really go into tonight's game thinking that the best we might come away with was a 1 or 2 point win? If that's the case then we're not showing ourselves enough respect IMO, no wonder confidence seems low.

To be fair, he was specifically asked by Lloyd about Abdull, he didn't pick him out.

i agree, but like many have said, some players are untouchable or escape criticism, mainly the ones that played alongside him before he retired!

Unfortunately, most times I hear Radford make post-match comments he sounds like an inexperienced, naive coach thrown in to a head coach job too early.

There's nothing wrong with being an inexperienced coach, every head coach has been one in their life. But he just shouldn't be head coach in my opinion. He should be an assistant to an experienced head coach who he can learn from.

The comments about Abdul are evidence of this. Those comments aren't helpful to anyone. They don't help the club in the media, they don't buck the team up or challenge them, they don't encourage or challenge the player and they don't make the fans feel any better.
I know it's easy to come up with things to say after the event but then part of his job is to make the right comments at the right time. He should've said something along the lines of:
"No Jordan didn't have his best game today. He struggled with <insert skill/part of the game here> all game but he's a great young prospect with massive potential if he works hard enough and he'll come back stronger next week."

Personally, from an outsiders point of view, it seems a big failing of the management that Radford was appointed in the first place but also that he's been kept on. He obviously isn't ready for it yet. Bring in an experienced Head Coach and demote Radford down to assistant for say 4/5 years, then bring him back.

As soon as that Gwilym bloke starts mentioning individual players Radford should offer no-comment.

He got sucked in by someone who appears (to somebody who rarely hears his interviews) to dislike Mr Radford or the Hull club per se?
