Like yourself Wilf i have supported Fc since my first ever game at Wakefield 59/60 a week before Wembley .I have followed the Club ever since that day and will continue to do so until i cannot physically get there.Call me stupid but despite the 11th finish last season I honestly believe there were signs of better things to come and with emergence of some really good young players who show passion for the shirt i believe the future looks good. This season will be full of ups and downs and hopefully more ups.Make no mistake it will not be easy and the team will have to perform well every week or bottom four would be the least of our worries.A good season could bring many back and if it does then we could see the start of a new era.I hope the fans get behind the lads and try to keep the negatives to a minimum.Giants will not be easy but far from being impossible and a win against Warrington would give the club a massive boost.All I say is back the Club and give plenty of noise at weekend COYH

Thanks for this weeks diary Wilf. I was at the Leeds game and if I remember rightly Hepworth was sent off in the second half, I hope someone can confirm this. It was probably an attempt by the ref to defuse and disperse the lynch mob at the end of the game.

Yes he was sent off after about 6 minutes! One reader told me today that we packed 3 men down in the scrum at times which of course we could do back then .

was it really 40 yrs ago,that leeds game ! don't think I have ever been so gobsmacked when jim macklin was waving his arm to call the players off the pitch,amazing.Idid get a bit depressed after reading your thoughts on the coming season,and also a bit disturbed by the comments by adam pearson, didn't know what to make of it really?came over to me anyway,that our owner is getting a bit wound up and tetchy,(I say this as a believer in both adam pearson and lee Radford) anyway calm down and cheer up people,a ball hasn't been kicked in anger yet!!! lol coyh

That was a night of firsts for me. The first time I ever ran on the Hallowed turf at the end of the game to chair Jim Macklin off the field. This was followed by my first ever alcoholic drink in a pub (Front Bar of the Queens on George Street although I was still 2 months short of my 18th birthday. Never ran on the pitch again though I have visited the odd bar or two (cough) since that night.

The Cas game with two sent off was brilliant. A Cas supporter turned to a few of us Hull fans after the sendings off and said " I hope you're proud of your dirty team". It gave me great pleasure at the end of the game to tell him I was very proud of my team!

I don't remember Heppy been sent of, in fact was him and his mouth that got Hull back on pitch .
Said some thing to Super Alf who decided since walking of might as well give him one before going and of course that brought Jim back and rest of team back.
Now I know time plays tricks on memory but if ask players you'll find thats more the way it was.

I don't often reply here but I have t say that's interesting and as always when I'm wrong I'll admit it because time and tide do play tricks on all our minds and I just write what I think I remember however just to put the record straight I'm affraid your wrong about the sending off because having checked with a couple of ex players on Saturday and more importantly with Bill Dalton the Club historian whose forgotten more than I know about the Club, Lawrenson did send Hepworth off in the 63rd minute. Bill also added that Chris Davidson kicked our first-ever One-Point Drop Goal in that game in addition to his 4 place kicks and that it was Steve Portz who scored the try!
