Not sure they bring them through at 17, especially in that position. Bateman & Ward are two recent youngsters I can remember, think even they were 18. HTW only turned 17 in late December.

When you get a legend like the great Johnny Whiteley saying that he thinks Harry reminds him of a Roger Millward then you know he is good. I would give him a go he is a fantastic player

Anyone who thinks we should bring harry in now or anytime this season is being silly in my opinion. Players are and have been full time for many years now. That means by the time a player is 26 he'll have been on a nutritional program done specific conditioning work for about 10 years and be generally at a level of fitness and strength beyond most people's understanding. Players don't have fish and chip after one of their 2/3 one hour training sessions a week anymore.
Harry left school a matter of months ago, at least give him a year or 2 of full time training.
Aside from the physical aspect his position is the hardest to master on the field.
In top level world rugby i don't know one half running at team at 17/18

As much as a prospect he is, the longer we can hold back the better, won't gain nothing putting him in a team lacking confidence.

Just look at the highs and lows of Ben Crooks.

Even the likes of Sam Tomkins didn't break thru till 19/20

Some good points on here especially about the physicality of the game now, certainly different from when Horne broke through as a 17 year old.

I agree. As I said in the last thread we had about him, we're only seeing such clamour for him because of how desperate we are for a top class half. That's silly IMO, the decision needs to be made based upon when he IS ready, not when we want him to be.

Would like us to sign an experienced half for 3 years and bring him in slowly. I don't think we should see him until 2016 at the earliest, except for the friendlies and if we get seriously lower grade team in the CC.

I don't think we need to. Halfback is an area we've excelled in over the last decade or so, and I see no need to change a winning formula.

Does this suggest a new dawn in French RL or are our kids not as good as we think? Guess we can only determine that by us and the French playing the Aussies. I imagine that they would be different class. Are ther any games planned so that these lads can test themselves against the best benchmark available?

France are always competitive at junior level, they beat Australia a couple of years ago. The problem is that most of the players don't get the opportunity to develop properly due to there only being one full-time club in France. Only 3 of today's France squad are signed with Catalans, another two are with English clubs but the rest are just signed to part-time clubs in the French league. I've never understood why English clubs don't look to sign more of them because there is some real talent.

We gave one a trail a few years ago, but it obviously never worked out.
