March 12th sees Hull celebrate its rugby league heritage in two talks by Hull historians from De Montfort University.
At Hull History Centre, PhD reseracher Victoria Dawson will give a lunchtime talk on one of Hull’s pioneering women of the game, whilst The Freedom Centre on Preston Road will welcome award-winning author and historian Professor Tony Collins for the evening, who will go back to the 19th century to uncover the early history of Hull and Rovers. Professor Collins’ will treat the audience to some very rare footage of both Hull and Hull KR and is not to be missed.

Kay Ibbetson made history within the game of rugby league. A lifelong Hull Kingston Rovers fan, she was the first female coach when she took over the reins at East Hull RFC in 1960. Victoria Dawson tells Kay’s story whilst recounting the problems of piecing together the biography of a very public woman who lived a very private life.
