Has anyone within the kingston communications area swapped from KC to the sky package,if so how did you find the changeover and performance since?

You can get sky broadband in hull now? Or you on about the surrounding areas

Last time I checked, you can't get any other landline broadband in Hull.

I'm in Hedon which is part of the original KC network,i spoke to sky yesterday and they're adamant they can do it and the girl even went away and double checked. I've agreed to try it with a 31 day cancellation option so we'll see what happens now. They're sending a router out and have made an appointment for an engineer to come and reposition the phone line all free of charge so nothing to lose really. The full package is £19.99 for 6 months rising to £26 a month after that. Unlimited downloads and phone calls with inclusive international numbers.

It's always annoyed me that as I have the full sky package I'm entitled to unlimited free broadband and phone, which could save me £40 p/m. But thanks to the Monopoly KC has I can't. May have to ring them given this.

I spoke to sky only last week about reducing my package, I got the usual sales patter " why don't you take out one of our broadband packages" I then said " I live in Hull" to which he replied " oh you can't then ". So I would be interested if this was possible

You can get a KC BUNDLE free internet all 01/02 numbers after 1800 free talk as long has you like, so many mobile numbers after 1900 on a weekend and your local call free. If you ring KC they will give you a price.Our monthly bill is £29- 99 The wife ring friends in Bradford on a night and they talk for over 3 hours with no extra cost

You only get 33 gb of data and with 5 people and probably 10 items to access the Internet that isn't enough data, as we found out. So we are now paying £37 a month which is a lot more than sky would be

Does that include Sky TV, and line rental?

You do realise that that is an absolutely awful deal, don't you? Compared to everywhere else in the country, where you could be getting some kind of television package thrown in with a lot higher broadband speeds and download allowances.

KC is an absolute rip off. I absolutely detest their monopoly on this area.

Tried Broadbandchoices.co.uk,a site which compares the best deals and suppliers in your area,Guess what, typed in my Hull post code and KC is all I can get.

Non starter,Sky contacted me today saying it wasn't possible to port my existing number over to the sky service,i queried this with KC who's official line was that Sky are unable to port their phone lines across to their service and vice versa. Sky can only use BT lines and as there are non in Hull they can't provide their services.
However,Sky did say that if i were willing to change my phone number they may be able to do it,i'm not messing about like that so declined and left it at that. KC do a phone and broadband package for £29.99 which i will swap onto which will save me £8 a month,this includes an upgrade on my Broadband package but they won't supply me with a wireless router as i'm not a new customer. So i buy a wireless router or persevere with my cable router which i wasn't impressed with.
Oh well,it was worth a try.

While you cannot get alternative hard wired solutions, there are satellite options in the in area I believe. This is only any good if your connection is really slow though as the cost per month is higher if you use it alongside a landline.

The KC situation is effectively a monopoly, but it is due to other providers not coming into the area, the network is open to other providers. Its a difficult situation, but I personally feel that OFCOM need to get KC to lower their rental costs (which are the same as BT apparently) in order to make it more appealing.

Speaking of KC, has anyone's download speed been fluctuating occasionally since the snow hit?

The first night mine dropped to about 3mbs but was fine again the next day, then did it again last night for about 15 mins before going back to 7.5ish.

I think MS3 will be first company to come into the area. They were doing some work around where I work and they said they were going into companies first and then going into homes. I also think I read somewhere about this but not sure. Could be the start of other companies coming into the area

It will tell you if it's an available option to you

You can also ring them up and ask if it's available,no matter what they say or what the postcode checker says it isn't available.

MS3 won't be directly selling to consumers. There plan from what I've heard is to sell to businesses and then charge BT, Virgin and Sky etc line rental to use there cabling to install broadband etc in home. That second phase will depend if there interested and if a deal can be negotiated for them to come in. Won't happen for few years yet. Been fairly happy with KC in my area for broadband but the price is shocking compared to what others get! I don't know anyone that will stay with KC if sky etc come in. I know it's good to support your local company and that but there a joke with prices!

If you're paying for full sky and not getting it, ring them and just keep bugging them, you'll either get what you're paying for or get a few quid knocked off. They're a lot like mobile phone companies in that they're making that much money off everyone they'll knock a few quid off without much argument for the 10% of customers willing to ring and ask.

Besty, if your desperate for a wireless router I have (at least) 3 old Netgear DG834G Wireless routeres not doing much...
1 Original v1 and 2 version 2 pluses (one AOL/One SKY - both have been flashed with Standard firmware so are both Generic)

i used to work for orange broadband who did a landline and internet package but you had to have a bt line.
which no one in hull has because kc wont sell up to bt although they have had some very nice offers from bt. the fact is if we are lucky enough to live in hull lol we will have to pay alot more for sky and be robbed by kc for a very slow internet and high call package. my advice for sky would be to ring up and say your not happy paying that amount and say you are going to cancel they will quite happily give you a deal were you get half price for 6 months or free for 3 months you will be surprised how many people do this. the people who dont are losing out. and as for kc if you can go without a landline then id recommend sure broadband fast speeds and unlimited usage for around £20 a month.

Just curious as to why you accuse KC of robbery but will happily have 3 months free from Sky - which I think robs me cos I am paying for mine. Just asking like
