| Haven't seen the full article, living out of town, but John Meehan tweeted that Ehab Allam has said in the HDM supplement:
'KC on current lease terms is fine in the Championship. If we get promotion, then we'll have to look at relocating to out-of-town stadium, owned by club. Without promotion it's difficult to build a new stadium & sustain it'.
A few things going on here:
New rule banning ground shares with rugby clubs alluded to by Karen Brady recently.
Bit risky IMO to get promotion then start building a new stadium. By the time its built City would probably have been relegated again.
If this did happen in the future, I'd guess the SMC would be sold too, hypothetically to Adam Pearson. Running costs without City would be dramatically reduced, question would be whether FC could operate at break even with sole tenancy. Unlikely.
One to ask about at the fans forum?

| Just another round of bluster from the Allams if you ask me. They have no intention of building a stadium but are make enough noise to try and convince the council to sell/give them the stadium.

| similar topic on the wigan board, like many say on there, the premiership do not have the authority or power to kick rugby teams out of shared stadiums if they have leases to play there for numerous seasons, more huff and puff from wendyballers who like many of their players are out of touch with reality! the premiership would be looking at court cases from both sports and would end up with egg on their faces

Take it that nothing's been announced on that front yet, then - was a few weeks ago IIRC.
Not sure what the questioning was in the HDM. The obvious clarification question would be that given they have already invested £51m in the club are they saying there's another £50m on the table to build a new stadium in the event of promotion?
The other point is the lease obligations that City have with 15 odd years unexpired on their contract for KC tenancy.

| In the interview, Assem Allam mentions how he has been to every away game for City this season to see how other clubs operate. He says clubs cannot rely on "help, help, help and handouts. What if I drop dead tomorrow". He mentions Reading who will "always make money because they have a Waitrose linked in."
Paul Baxter questions this as alluding to the proposed purchase of the KC Stadium and Ehab Allam says that City owning its own stadium is still their goal, although it's unlikely to be at the KC. He says the current lease terms are fine for the Championship but promotion would mean looking at relocating out of the city. Without promotion it would be difficult to sustain it.
There is no mention of Hull FC in the interview - it's purely a Hull City article.
I still find it hard to believe that they think a 40,000 stadium at Melton would be a good idea.

| Sounds like more posturing to try and get the council to give them the stadium.
I don't know much about football but I think the worst thing to happen to City at the moment would be promotion, they would either end up getting into more financial problems or get hammered every week and go down anyway. Seems like you need a rich backer these days in the EPL and it doesn't sound like the Allam's want to do that.

| Utter nonsense.
Tigers would only average 25k at best in premiership. Sure they will get 35-40 for top 4 but that's all.
Second season in prem most games didn't sell out.
Second stadium at Melton as likely Lord Lucan turning up on Shergar !
Best outcome for me is City do make the prem, Ellam sells and gets his money out and common sense and normality returns.
Tickles me that some turn this into Soccer V Rugby - many of us are sports fans who have an interest in both codes.

| 40k seater stadium is going to cost well in excess of £80M, look at Saints new ground, hardly what you'd call anything special and that was £25M. the KC was what £40M+ and that was 10 years ago.
He hasn't got the money nor the clout and the simple fact is city don't have a big enough fan base/draw to sustain the costs of the size of stadium the Allams would be proposing, never mind the fact that you would alienate a large proportion by moving out to melton in any case.
The risk of relegation for a relatively small team is high (IF they indeed get promoted) which would put off external backers.
It's a total non starter, the guys a gobe.

| For me, young Allam using the Reading model as an exemplar for economic sustainability speaks volumes. This tunes into how major supermarkets and retail outlets are now looking at expanding through leasehold as opposed to freehold.
With this in mind, I wouldn’t write off talk of building a new sports stadium (with retail space at its core) as simply the Allam’s posturing re the KC. It’s my opinion it would be a wiser investment for the Allam’s to build a new stadium of 35,000-40,000 capacity than to extend the KC because of the current restrictions and complexities that exist at the KC with the Council, FC, other users, and its community tag. As it stands now, the return on investment from a new build far outweighs the investment in the KC without retail expansion.

| This has been brought up before. The current Premier League rules - presumably being ignored for convenience - are:
Ground Sharing
I.4 - No Club shall have or enter into a ground-sharing agreement unless the agreement contains a legally enforceable provision to the effect that the playing of the Club's League Matches shall always take precedence over the activities of the other party to the agreement.
Given that Premier League football and Super League both rely heavily on Sky incomes, I'd hope that this a non-issue. As for the Allams building a new stadium in Melton, no chance.

The flaw in this though is twofold:
1) What retail capacity would the planners give to a site at Melton?
2) I'd be surprised if it were anything over 40k sq ft of food space. Commercial rent for a site with A1 food consent is around £20 per sq ft, so would provide an income of £800k pa. In the context of running a Premiership football club, it's in the roundings.
The investment required for a successful team in that league requires a lot more than £50m and to build a new stadium would be a massive gamble as retaining premiership status would require a tonne of investment in player wages too. IMO.

| Surprisingly only a Rovers supporter takes this seriously.
If Mr Allam Junior really wishes Quote :2kzbjfgsto use the Reading model as an exemplar for economic sustainability'" his research would show that the Madjeski Stadium has a capacity of 25,000 and that Reading FC have played in the Football League Championship since 2005.

Not forgetting the not-insignificant contributions of London Irish playing there and the Madejski Millennium Hotel too.
As for taking it seriously, do you honestly believe this is anything more than yet more Allam bluster?
