| I am getting a little envious of clubs like Cas and Bradford having games over this period mainly due to the lack of seeing live RL. Do people miss these fixtures as much as me? Is the risk of injury to much now for clubs to contemplate. I feel a game by us during this period would generate a large crowd.

| Me too - I really miss them and it dosen't seem to harm the preparation of the clubs who do stage these fixtures.

| I think the last time we were supposed to have a Christmas friendly, it was against the dobbins and it was called off because of a frozen pitch.
Remember being very disappointed at the time and with the weather we are having at the mo and with the expected cold snap to continue, I think there could be few more disappointed fans out there.

I also remember the time we played them in the middle of winter at caravan park and I nearly froze to the barriers; I don't miss winter games one bit.
How long before we have the Des Hasler game mentioned?

| other teams always seem to start there friendlies well before the 2 Hull sides, not sure why though, id be there tomorrow for a friendly but like you said, in this weather the injuries could mount up, and can you imagine O'Meley and Clint Newton running out in there gloves, tights and snoods?

Put it into perspective; would anyone in their right mind want to play rugby in this weather? I used to hate playing in winter - I hated watching it even more. Also health and safety issues are more prevalent now, most of the fixtures would be at risk as soon as they're announced.
Friendly games are a valuable part of pre season, but there has to be a bit of common sense as well.

| The pre- season friendlies are more than adequate for me.
The players also deserve the Xmas period off from playing , it would be a bit unfair to disrupt their family time.
The games may generate a fair bit of interest but many of us aren't too bothered about friendlies anyway.

Yes, my heart would bleed, £70k a year+ for training and playing 80 minutes, real hardship.

| Does not bother me in the slightest not having a Boxing Day fixture.
If Leeds fans get to see their Academy side (with a smattering of first teamers) play Wakefield good luck to them.

| i must admit that i used to miss the festive games when we 1st went to summer rugby but not anymore, the craven park friendly a few years ago made me wonder how we did it for all those years, i still get my winter rugby by watching my son play and they often provide better entertainment than the pro's . i have never really been too bothered about friendlies ( glorified training sessions). i think if your going to play rugby there may aswell be something riding on it, i would get rid of the friendlies and replace them with the county cups.

| Only teams that have their own ground are able to host a Christmas fixture. Any attempt nowadays by minor tenants such as FC to play one one at a football ground will be vetoed, just as their home preseason friendlies were.

hmmm... interesting...
Not sure it's feasible though, and clubs that go out in the first round would still want more game time I reckon.

there are ways and means though, you could have the first round in groups of 3 or 4 say with the winners of the groups playing semi finals etc. personally I think the idea has merit but the RFL would never buy into it imho
