| I would rest the entire 1 st squad Friday clearly they do not want to play.
Its seems to be vogue to blame the coach, board, Kaff and Jimmy, true they are all at fault one way or another. This is player power in action again, and we have already lost two coaches to them and I think Agar and Sharp could well be the next to go.
The players on the field do not want to know, their body language is all wrong and you can see them barely going through the motions. That needs sorting and quick or it will only get worse and it this that will cause the club, coaches and fans the most upset. Good coaches do not allow the players to form there own pressure groups and good management supports the coach. Up to now this has not been happening at FC certain players have the board’s ear and that undermines the coach. John Kear went because of other things (he was on the same money as he had when he was assistant), but when a certain Kiwi hooker stuck the knife in Kear had to go. Sharp was similar with the board constantly taking positions that chipped away at the coaching staff.
Here we are again
Bomber did manage to keep the board at arms length, a certain Hull bound player going to Leeds and an un-guarded word over breakfast saw to that. The whole set up at FC is clearly not working and I put it down to the relationships between the Board, Coaches and Players and until someone has the testicular fortitude to sort it out, lay down rules then this will keep happening. They could well sack Agar this week; they will appoint Sharp, which will change nothing indeed it could make it worse. You could sign any of the NRL coaches and it will happen again and keep happening until the structure is put right.
Friday I would play the u21 team, make the 1st team watch from the east or south stand. I would find out who the ring leader is and sack them, I don't care who it is they would be gone and announce it at the match. Kaff has to take the board away from team decisions and should not be allowed to speak to any player without the coach being present.
The u21 lads will play with pride and passion, that’s whets lacking and if the first team don't want to even, use the lads.

Thats kind of how it works, teams lose and they drop down the table.
Whether we are going to stay there or not we are currently 8th, therefore it is in our own hands and this season is not a write off. Yet.

You seriously think we'll be in the top 8 at the end of the season anyway? Even if, by some miracle, we scrape 8th place, we'll get bummed by Saints in the first round after they've selected us for their easy passage to the next game.

Really good post I particulaly like the bit about everyone at every level havingto shoulder some of the blame. The fact is sadly it looks like the coaching staff have lost some of the senior players, and as you say Ian player power kicks in! The trouble is we have appointed the coaches we have appointed because they suit the board in that they will agree with them. We should have gone for the best coach in the world, and if we could not get him, work back from that position. That is what ambition is all about!

On present form it is.
Besides it is not a point of maybe we can scrape in (only to be slaughtered after the first play-off match) it is about Agar sending out a message to the players who show no effort, pride or enthusiasm

I'd support em to the hilt!

First of all we wouldn't play Saints becase that is not how the system works.
Secondly, that is a worse atitude than the players have. "oh we probably won't be able to do it so lets not even waste our time trying."

Some good points Ian, as always. I would have one concern though, Agar I understand wants to make some big changes for next season in terms of players coming in and players leaving. He has identified these changes and him goin now would mean that a new coach would come in without knowing all of what has gone on. I also don't want to see the players get their own way as imo they are the biggest problem and not the coaches.
I get the feeling the club will stick with Agar and let him call the shots for 2010.

I am sure they will act, however my fear is they make the wrong choice, lets put aside Agars ability for now, if the players win this call then there is no saying it will not happen again (even with a top coach) and it will become a spiral of inconsitency, dissapointed fans etc, it has gone on now for years and it has to stop or it will destroy the club.
Agar unfortunatley has inherited a lot of players who have taken part in player power before, he needs a chance to weed it out and build a decent squad who are prepared to be proffesional, let him have his season next year then judge.
I for one am prepared to watch us lose as long as the team put 100% effort in and play with pride, something most of these players are not prepared to do unless they get what they want, well fook em

I was using Saints as an example. I don't know who will finish where any more than you do.
My attitude is not worse than the players. They are being paid good money to perform to the best of their ability and only a handful are bothering. I'd be willing to sacrifice a possible 8th place finish this season if it sent out a message to the players concerned that they cannot expect to get by on a minimum amount of effort all the time.
Eighth place for a club with gates, merchandise revenues, and an off the field structure like ours should be seen as nothing less than a massive failure.

You may well have hit the nail right on the head with that quote. Hence the mass throwing out of dummy's from the collective players pram.
Maybe nowhere near the truth, but it looks like it to me.

I agree with your general point about player power and all that goes with it. However, even if Agar is not [ithe[/i problem he is still a significant part of it IMO.
Player power is not responsible for his odd team selections, constant playing of Radford at LF, laughable interchange policy, poor tactics, and general lack of imagination.
At the very least he is managing to make a bad situation worse.

| Hear in lies my issue with Agar (or one of em)...i fully agree that some players are not putting the effort in....so why the hell are they in the team then??!! Pick some kids instead...can't do much worse. Surely that is down to the coach?
All the players (barring Craig Hall - scapegoat i may add) play week in week out regardless of form, application, enthusiasm etc, etc.....Agar hasn't the bawls to sort it out....that (along with his poor tactics, interchanges etc) is why he is out his depth.
And i agree with others - Agar isn't the only problem, the majority of the OOC players need to go also, as do some contracted ones (Radford, King, Tickle)

Odd team selection=limited players?
poor tactics & general lack of imagination=players not following gameplan?
Agree his interchange policy is dubious, and possibly better options for LF

I take your point but if Agar gets the boot then who gets rid of the players? Surely a new coach would not have all the facts at his disposal and could end up retaining the bad element.
I think some of the players know they could be in line for the chop and don't like it, hence their poor displays.
