Who would you be prepared to lose in order to strengthen in the areas you think we are weak? Try to be realistic in terms of the Salary Cap.
I would release the following:
1 - Motu Tony - Great player but will no longer be offering value for money on the Salary Cap IMO.
3 - Todd Byrne - Already released due to injury
7 - Chris Thorman - Was only ever signed as a stop gap and has actually turned out even worse than i thought
10 - Peter Cusack - Good player but we only need one workhorse and Dowes will be cheaper and off quota
11 - Lee Radford - We have better options in the 2nd row and at prop - he also offers very little as Captain IMO.
13 - Michael Crocker - Never did anything for us
17 - Graeme Horne - We would be keeping him for the wrong reasons IMO as we have better options in all the positions he could cover.
19 - Paul King - FC through and through but if we want to improve he has to go.
Thats 8 out of the door which would reduce our squad size but allow us to increase the quality.
If everyone was fit that would give us a starting line up of something like...
1 - Richard Horne/New Full Back
2 - Mark Calderwood
3 - New Centre/Hall/Whiting/Briscoe
4 - Kirk Yeaman
5 - Gareth Raynor
6 - New SO/Richard Horne
7 - Sean Long
8 - Ewan Dowes
9 - Shaun Berrigan
10 - New Prop (Kite)
11- Willie Manu
12 - Danny Tickle
13 - Craig Fitzgibbon
14 - Epalahame Lauaki
15 - Jamie Thackray
16 - Thomas Lee
17 - Jordan Tansey
18 - Tom Briscoe
19 - Craig Hall
20 - Richard Whiting
21 - Danny Washbrook
22 - Danny Houghton
23 - Josh Hodgson
24 - Mike Burnett
25 - Dominic Maloney
26 - Sam Moa
The release of the above players should allow us to bring sufficient quality in at prop and FB/SO and I'd be prepared to go with what we have at Centre if it meant we could afford a better FB/SO. The first 17 looks good enough to challenge IMO with plenty of options to cover from the rest of the squad. We also have enough competition for places to keep the first team players on their toes. Now all we need is a coach that knows how to get the best out of them
