Surely we must have considerably more than that Wilf ?? Even conservative guessing of ball park salaries would give us a fair bit more. Cusack - 70k ? + Dowes - 70k ? + Calderwood - 70k ? + Hall - 40k ? + King/Raynor Pay-offs - 40k ?

I know there have been a few upgrades but even those rough guesses would give us £290 - upgrades = perhaps somewhere around £250k. That would be two very good players.

Although, for me, it's still not enough to get us to the top. Add Washbrook's, Horne's and Yeaman's salaries to that and we'd have a real tilt at it !!

Is Calderwood going? If he stays on a reduced contract and/or is paid bonuses game by game there still has to be money set aside for that.

Why do people specualte what is left on the cap, no one on here has a clue what people are earning and what we have left to play with.

ffs i think we all know that we dont have a clue what players are earning are rightly so but as fans we are just estimating what we think they maybe earning so it gives us fans a better understanding of how much cap we may have left so we can speculate on what kind of player we would like knowing on how much we may have

While no one knows the actual figures players are on, the suggested fact that we nearly signed Fielden (who would have been on a fair whack) and also attempted to sign Myler, we wouldn't do that with just a small fraction of the cap left when we need to strengthen in other areas.

Only concern I have with that is that it reads like Tansey will remain 1st choice fullback, but we feel like we have to bring in another as a way to make him toe the line. With a salary cap to work with, it is irritating if we indeed need to carry and pay for a spare fullback just because one idiot can't behave himself.

if we are looking at young nrl halfbacks why not look at players to bring them in on a season long loan see how things go and then decide wether he deserves a long contract better all round and dosent tie the club down that player.

We don't know what they earn but estimating helps us understand better? People become obsessed by what we have and what players earn.

The club are targetting a prop, fullback and a half and that could mean one good player and two younger players but why worry about what cap we have. Even if we knew exactly what we had left how do we know who we can get, we don't know what there wages would be.

Think this depends on the halfback situation. We might decide to bring in a young half and spend bigger money on a fullback. If that happened then Tansey would probably go to hooker with Houghton and also act as additional cover for the halves.

All depends on the calibre of player available and how best to sepnd the money. For example lets say we could not find a top halfback so went for a younger option say Briggs. We might then spend big money on a fullback say Greenshields. The move Tansey to hooker with Houghton.

On a chat forum i guess it informs the debate. It's all speculation but there wouldnt be much of a forum without speculation.

I appreciate that Dave, it just seems people seem to get too bogged down with money and what people reckon there is to spend, lets face it it's all guesswork anyway.

What people also aren't factoring in are any bonuses the players have in their contracts for performance over the season, I am sure the majority are on a "basic" of some sort, with other payments triggered by league position and playoff performance, the club will have to set these aside for cap purposes, so operating at "full cap" probably means that if we win the Grand Final then we would spend the full cap, any erformance less than that means we would come in under, or that is my perspective anyway.

GF and CC winners get "a bit extra cap" for bonus payments.

can't understand why we would go looking for fullback 'cover' when Horne and Whiting can both play there if required.

I could understand signing a new fullback if we intend to play Tansey in the halves, but to pay for a squad player to cover full-back would be madness...it would be like having Todd Byrne again.

They do, its been mentioned a bit. Bonus payments that might be due as a result of a GF win may push some over the cap, there is something in the rules to allow the bonus payments. Some clubs might decide to share the prize pot between the players

It's in the general SC regs...



Any money paid out as a result of winning MOS or appearing for an International side are also excluded.
