Can't see many clubs if any offering a straight 3 year deal TBH for a 32 yr old no matter how good he is.

Think its his agent either trying to get more money or a longer deal, it may now be a case of deciding if a 3 yr deal with us is worth more than a gamble on a 1 or 2 year deal elsewhere.

It would go against your clubs general stance on over 30s. Stranger things have happened though.

Ellis is two years younger than Manu. (Ellis is 30, Manu is 32 atm).

Never have i seem solomona take a crap ball n make a 30 40 50 yard break out of nothing with a massive step hand off n back like pace! solomona is Strong,skillfull n amazing offloader but too me quite different to Willi. TP little bit more like manu,but does most of his eye catchin stuff off the back of his sheer size n power,with some great hands!

Just had a text from a mate whos wife works at Sirius who tells me Manu has agreed the deal .. all to be announced!

According to Wiki, Ellis was born on 3rd May 1981 and Manu on 20th March 1980. So Manu is a little over a year older.

Ellis will technically still be 31 when he starts playing for us.

And 32 in his first year

And Manu will be 33

Hull signing Gareth Ellis was always going to make it a more expensive process persuading Manu to stay. Manu and his agent know full well his importance to Hull and they will have been holding out for comparable terms to what Ellis recieved. Judging by the HDM comments and Shaun Mcrae interview he has got them.
Short term you have got yourself arguably the best secondrow pair in Super League. However, in 2 years time will you have a pair of fading stars taking up a huge chunk of cap money and not be in a position to replace them?

People will try to look for positives but it's a massive loss, I would have liked to think that with the new owners and coaching team that the current players would be excited about the future of the club and want to be part of a new era. If we were to lose Moa & O'Meley on top of Manu it would take some special recruitment for us to make it to the next level.

I totally agree with this.

The Ellis signing was a big coup, but if we have gone balls deep on this deal, yet we lose Moa, Manu and O'Meley then the signing looks pretty poor and quite short sighted

Well if thats the case can't say the club didnt try and we will just have to move on.

In some ways this may well be better for us in the long run as frees up more space for areas we need to strengthen more.

Will be sorry to see him go if he has as he does offer something different but I am sure PG & SM will find a suitable replacement and improve the team regardless.

As has been said other teams have won silverware without him in their side and we have not won anything with him. Players come and go just a shame he wont be part of the success we are heading for.

If players don't wanna play for Hull there isn't anything you can do. Obviously the management have bent over backwards to keep him but we have Ellis coming in and a large chunk of cap now to strengthen elsewhere and plenty of time to look.
