I don't think the issue is solely how many games have been won/lost, it's how we have played in those games.

exactly
and I also don't have faith in Agar's ability to bring the players we need to bring in over the summer to change things, he's not even a big name in England never mind Australia

Quite. That being said, the side we have is capable of much better than it has been producing. We have played badly in several games and looked totally disnterested in some of them. Yet we've only lost one by a big margin. If we had produced performances anywhere near to our potential we would have won many more games than we have.

| In many respects I don't want to see Agar leave the club. From what I have been told, the man puts in countless hours both at the club and scouting out youngsters to bring to the club. He's well respected in the amateur game and has been instrumental in us securing some top talent from W Yorkshire (the Briscoe brothers amongst others). Unfortunately, he just doesn't seem to be head coach material for a top club at the moment. As has been said, the players we have should have been capable of winning more games this season, and we should have won all of our home games to date at the very least. In addition, the style of rugby is terrible. We are, without doubt, the most dour team in SL and seem incapable of doing the basics of the game at times.
I appreciate that there are players missing, however we're not the only team who are understrenght. Look at wakey. They have a paper thin squad which has been decimated, yet they still manage to play attractive rugby. I could accept us losing if we were at least entertaining.
Agar has been in charge for a year now and we're still playing the same brand of one man rugby we were before he took over. I just don't think he's the man for us

That's the point. Unless someone really, really good becomes available, getting rid of Agar will just mean more of the same when they hand the job to Sharp.
Give him until the end of the season and take stock then.

too late then, if we are still in poor form that would be 2 years of poor rugby and there would be a good few thousand passes not renewed (mine included) and it'd be too late for a new coach to change things for 2010
most signings take place in the summer, so if we were going to change we'd have to do it sooner rather than later

I think you are right.
In many ways Agars appointment could be seen as a bold one - young British coach etc , but this is tempered somewhat by the possibe cheaper option motive.
My FC supporting mates were still critical of Agar during the winning run and bemoaned his lack of tactics and bench selection. He does have many of Peter Sharps traits.

And who is available now? What better options are out there? There's little point in getting rid of a coach unless you have another, better coach with whom to replace him.

Excellent post, agree with each point you've made.
I honestly believe that with a top class coach we would currently be sat on top of SL with 10 wins from 11. Each of the 4 home games we've lost (Cas, Wakey, rovers, Salford in the cup) plus the away game at Quins were there to be won. Each of them were lost due to a game plan (particulary in attack) which is conservative at best and simply ineffective at worst.
As much as I hate to say it, the media whore from caravan park would get an extra 100% out of this squad of players and each of those 5 defeats above would have been turned into victories. As a collection of players they're not world beaters, but they are a damn sight better than the performances shown so far this season and last.
I don't doubt that Agar isn't committed to the club and that he works his socks off, but to me it seems obvious that he isn't at the level we require to compete at the top table. The problem with removing him is that we all know who his replacement will be. And just as sacking P.Sharp and replacing him with his assistent altered nothing, so repeating that move 12 months on will solve nothing again.
Somehow from a position of strength in Oct 2006 (1 game away from being Champions) we've driven straight into a cul-de-sac with no reverse gears. Some hard decisions are going to have to be made to arrest this slump, it won't be easy and it won't be quick but it must be clear to all that we are going nowhere fast at the moment.

Rich can only p!55 with the co*k he's got.....He has a selection problem due to the red tape nonsense of the visa system and players injured. To be honest, i really don't think he is the problem. I believe what he is saying about the training not being transfered to the overall machday performance. The night we got beat by Cas......The lads looked fired-up in the warm-up and some of the moves were 'silky-smooth.....As soon as the hooter sounded for the game 'smooth' turned to coconut matting as bog-roll.
Its the players on the field that need to stick to the game plan IMHO

They are doing just that, which is half the problem in my eyes. The game plan (if indeed one actually exists) is the major reason why this team is underachieving to the extent it is.
Don't forget, in modern day sport, the Coach/Manager is God. The days of individual players such as Norton, Millward, Murphy dictating play based on their own tactical reading of the game in progress are long gone.
If the Coach says run left, they run left and continue to run left until the Coach tells them to run right. If the Coach sticks to the original game plan the players will continue to carry it out, irrespective of whether or not its working. Players stopped thinking for themselves a long time ago.
