I did read up on it,And the fact remains that The Gold reserves were sold AGAINST ALL BANKING SECTOR ADVICE
The loss will be irrellivant in the present context of the nations debt because it is just a drop in the ocean now.But and it is a big BUT when these reserves were sold there should have been no reason for it,The economy was a lot stronger.So ask yourself why was it done.

You said what the only two you could see were, and then you argued against the other suggestions I put forward (saying that drug addicition was a choice then saying that unless you had a mental impairment you should know right from wrong and not commit crime). Those are things you said. Trying to weasel out of it now does you no favours whatsoever.

saying that,as a non-uk resident shouldn't the main aim of any uk government be to somehow limit the legal (not to mention illegal) entry of the tens/hundreds of thousands of folk from east of Berlin ? Whilst someone might choose to try, say, heroin for the first time, after that first fix, you're hooked. It's not a case of just choosing to stop. Then you have to look at the reasons people might choose to try it for the first time: they might be suffering from mental health problems, they might be pressured into it by someone else, they might just be easily led. Whilst it might be a stupid thing to do (in some instances), who doesn't ever do anything stupid? And once you've done it the first time, you can't undo it.



That wasn't my example - it was Standee's - and it's a pretty extreme one. But since you brought it up: how do you know there are 'plenty' of people who have been abused as children then pimped out as teens, but who haven't gone on to use drugs? Do you know them all personally? Perhaps you have some statistics about what proportion of abused children who are later forced into prostitution use drugs and what proportion don't?

I'd imagine those who don't are in a minority, and of course they should be applauded for showing the tremendous strength needed to avoid drug abuse in those circumstances. But can you honestly say that you wouldn't have turned to drugs in those circumstances? I can't, and the truth is, until you're in that situation yourself, you'll never know.

The other issue, of course, is that a lot of people who are forced into prostitution are also forced into drug addiction - it works well for the pimps because their need to get their next fix makes them nice and compliant.

So, about these 1400 jobs. We had a meeting yesterday but as usual nobody knows anything. Further meetings between the heads of service and unions and we will let you know blah,blah,blah. Really hope this gets resolved sooner rather than later. If you know you are going to be made redundant you can start planning, looking for a job. Don't want to jump if I'm not going to be pushed.

'bloody' is a great word and can be useful depending on the usage - in your case I found it unnecessary for you to use that tone of expression in a situation where I showed you no agression or malice so why use it ?

I've never had to face the problem of drug abuse,child abuse,living below the poverty line,racial or sexual discrimination and all the rest - however,I do find the fact that my handicapped wife who is dying of cancer does occasionally make me feel a bit miffed when I read posts 'lampooning' the less fortunate among us...

As I said, perhaps the first time, but not after you're addicted. And there are many possible mitigating factors surrounding that choice.



Some drugs and ways of taking them are different from others. But we're talking specifically about drug 'addiction' here. Have a look at the definition of an addiction before spouting nonsense.



No, there isn't. If you are truly addicted to a drug you need lots of specialist help and support to come off it. You can't just choose to stop being addicted to heroin.

I did read it and my point still stands: how many people do you know who have had similar lives to this who have not abused drugs? Do you have an overall percentage of those who do and who don't? Different things affect people in different ways and to just say 'they had a choice' is facile and simplistic.



When your choice is to bear unimaginable physical and/or emotional pain every day of your life or abuse an adddictive drug, I wouldn't say that was much of a choice.
