I take your point but if Agar gets the boot then who gets rid of the players? Surely a new coach would not have all the facts at his disposal and could end up retaining the bad element.
I think some of the players know they could be in line for the chop and don't like it, hence their poor displays.
'"
If that is the case then Agar should drop them and play the kids.

you mean the players who will knuckle down for a month or 2 and then get contracts extended and then the circle begins again

Yup, spot on Karl.
We keep getting rid of coaches but nothing changes as it's the same players who are lazy and uninterested. At some stage a coach needs to be backed and have a proper clearout.

That's why we need to get one in now. They'll have the rest of the season to see who's worth keeping and who isn't. It's more than obvious from looking at the videos who should be given the chop.
Also, the new coach needs to know that they have the 100% backing of the board to weed out the trouble makers (if there are any). You only need to make an example of one or two players, and the rest will soon fall into line.

That would work providing there is a top coach out there who is willing to come now.

| The club needs a coach who is a leader, not a manager. Somone who doesn't care about upsetting people, someone who will make the hard decisions and stand by them. Someone who rattles cages but who can galvanise the players into an effective unit. We need a massive shake up behind the scenes otherwise the club will slip into obscurity.
I also believe agar isn't the whole problem, however I do believe he is a major part of it. The last thing we needed when sharp left was to appoint someone who already knew and had worked with the players. We need someone fresh to come in who can assess the situation objectively and make tough decisions. We also need them to get the full backing of the board in whatever they want to do.
My concern is that the board don't want to hand over some of their perceived power to a coach and that will always restrict who we can bring in. It's a very short sighted approach and one which will hinder us until we have a change of ownership at the club.

Everyone has their price. We must have a bit of spare cash kicking about this year. Invest in a top class coach who takes no nonsense, and the rest should start to fall into place.

Point taken, as I mentioned in the other thread Agar does himself no favours with some of his decisions and tactics.

I don't disagree, we should have doen this when PS went, in fact we should have kept him until the end of the season then had a clearout of the coaching staff a bit like Hudds have done.

| I know that the board has far too much input in team selection and they listen to team members.
That undermines the coaching staff and is the route cause of the problems, it needs sorting and that is going to be painful. Some of our senior players are a bloody disgrace and they need to be got rid off.

| Quote ="PAUL M"Some good points Ian, as always. I would have one concern though, Agar I understand wants to make some big changes for next season in terms of players coming in and players leaving. He has identified these changes and him goin now would mean that a new coach would come in without knowing all of what has gone on. I also don't want to see the players get their own way as imo they are the biggest problem and not the coaches.
I get the feeling the club will stick with Agar and let him call the shots for 2010.'"

I'd be happy for Agar to stay if we knew he was going to be replaced by someone much better at the end of the season. I'd even be happy for us to get rid now and be without a head coach until a top class one can be found - even if it takes until the end of the season.
Then a total clean sweep of the coaching set up and playing staff (as much as is realistic) should take place and we can start again.

Maybe not, if Agar has a clear out this year and carries on with his recruitment which is looking healthy we should do well.
Then all we have to worry about are his interchanges

Well you may have a point
However what we have to bear in mind is it is the players who have to follow the gameplan, defensive, and attacking and they are not producing we have a limited squad to choose from right now so the players have Agar by the b@lls.
The selection on occasions has mystified me however again we are unsure the extent of the problems behind the scenes which may well be contributing to this.
My biggest gripe with Agar is that he is carrying on playing these players he should now use the kids.

I think after recent performances he has every right to do so. As long as it is made known well b4 the game so all the moaners who wont pay to see the 2nd string can stay at home.
I know I would definitely go and support some of the young uns.

Nope, just frustrated and finally at the end of my tether.
I'll go out of my way to defend players, coach, and club if I feel they're being unfairly criticised, and have done many times. I stood by both Kear and Sharp when they were in a similar position. It takes a lot to push me into open criticism, but this current shower have managed it.
Saturday was the last straw TBH.

Fair point, I think we are all fed up to be honest, like you point out it is the third time round in as many years this has happened. I am not suggesting Agar is the answer maybe if we had got Crocker and Luaikai and young Tom Briscoe was not injured things may be different. I may appear I am defending Agar it is just that I am so annoyed with the players I would hate to see Agar sacked because they are shiite (player power) and we just carry on with this continous spiral. Maybe the solution is we give Agar the chance to get rid of the deadwood and let him try to prove himsef next season based on the signings etc.

Sorry but if the side aren't following his tactics then why isn't he at the side of the pitch shouting at them to f@@king sort it every single week?
If I do employee training one week & see them doing something different during their work I'll tell them whilst they are doing it not bemoan the fact afterwards when it is too late & all gone tits up!
Sorry but despite the fact some players aren't seeming to put in the effort which to me is mainly down to demotivation, pressure & mental attitude; it boils down to the coach who is not strong enough to a) face up to he board (and/or players but I dont know that) AND for sure he certainly isn't a man manager/leader able to implement his training plan into a working environment.
The players HAVE the ability to be top 4 easy, it needs a coach who can tell the board that if they want success AND get (more) money into their pockets they do it his way.
Some people can manage employees on a day to day basis & instruct effectually whilst been able to implement change throughout a company for the better. These kind of people are few & far between. Sadly Agar isn't one of them.(and Sharp for that matter)
So it's partly the boards fault for employing the easy/cheap option, however no matter what the board say Agar is the PLAYING COACH/Manager, what he says should be the be all & end all of what goes on on the pitch. IF he cant make those decisions himself without influence from others & bring success with what we have then he isn't good enough in ALL facets that a Middle manager should be.
Even if he has the footballing skills & knowledge/tactics if he cannot implement them effectively he is buggered.
