| If I were a director I'd be looking to be repaid as quickly as possible rather than spinning it out. I can think of much safer investments than a professional rugby team. It would be easy to get a better return too.

Should make a profit again this year, what with the savings on Crocker, paying out Byrne, no CC fine to pay. At this rate the club will be debt free by 2030

| Kath and Rule both on salary in excess of £70k
so back to the share issue.
Many people say on here "right, no Crocker, lets go BUY someone, spend on a fee and get the best" I agree with this. But how is it funded?
The £130k pa that Crocker would be on is a salary, not a transfer fee, so if player X came along and wanted to come here but his club wanted £100k, how could we fund it?
Will the shareholders shell out? NO
Does the club have a "pot" "resverved profits"? NO, as established in recent posts.
Do we have property we can mortgage? NO
so a share issue might just give us that break we need.......

The £100k transfer fee would count on the cap. We plan to spend virtually up to the cap anyway, but obviously have Crocker's salary to play with, so this freed up money should be used. But it would have to be a player already in SL to be any use this season and how many clubs would be willing at this stage to free up a marquee player for £100k?

Brilliant... does that mean we can sign players with massive sign-on fees and then pay them £1 a week salary?

I'm a little confused by your logic. You say that the shareholders won't fund a transfer fee, but expect them to be happy to dilute their share of the club instead?
This board will not be selling shares to fans anytime soon. Or ever. Count on it.

Do we have property we can mortgage? NO =redActually yes we do, and it was revalued by about £180k as per the last set of accounts so there would be scope to borrow on the back of that. in reality remortgaging in a declining market with lenders twitchy about lending would not only be difficult, it would be business suicide to then plough that mortgage into a player transfer fee which would secure one player for say, three years. They would be paying off that morgage for years to come (and the interest that comes with it). Thats is essenciallt what brought Leeds United to its knee's financially. so a share issue might just give us that break we need.......'"

Yep I agree tell us where your information came from, three of the board including Rule are on salaries because they are all full time members of staff they are on the accounts, but as for Kaths salary, tell us where you get that from, we are all really interested now? And as for signing someone I think the money they have saved on Todd Byrnes settlement could help towards a transfer fee! This has been an interesting thread I am learning a lot here, I think?

Again the "settlement of Byrne" will not be a pot ready for a transfer fee!!!!

For it to be of any use this season, it would have to be for a current SL player, as NRL players would not get a visa before the end of the season. Could you list the ones you think we should target, whose current clubs would be interested in releasing right now? Thanks

You're the one shouting the odds and making posts demanding we spend £100k on a transfer fee. It's not an unreasonable question to ask for some suggestions as to who you think are feasible SL targets whose clubs would be willing to release them immediately. Unless, of course, there aren't any realistic candidates and you just want to criticise the club for the sake of it. I'm sure that's not the case, so let's have your realistic top 10 players we should be paying £100k for and whose clubs would release them straight away.

Nope, the £100k is not a personal demand. It is a figure that has been banded about here for some time.
I have mearly continued the train of thought. It would appear Brough is the sort of player that would be around £100k, not that i'd have him back at this moment.
Anyway, players who i would go for (off the top of my head, without thinking about it and looking at squads/injuries etc).....
Tommy Leuluai
Eastmond
Westerman
Why dont you suggest something? The fact that you stated the transfer fee would "count on the cap" shows your lack of knowledge anyway
Not always having a go at the club, just trying to enter into some sort of debate on here. Some social retards find it hard to do that in their lifes.

There have been repeated suggestions on here that the board are tight-@rses by not spending the full cap, when it is obvious that, under normal circumstances we do. We've been done in the past for breaching the cap. They are now being accused of the same charge but this time for not spending money on a transfer fee. My comments have been that this is a nice idea but there are very few realistic targets.

Tommy Leuluai - =blueFair enough if you rate him that highly. I personally wouldn't pay a transfer fee and a fair wedge of the salary cap. Whilst he's an improvement on what we've got, I'd rather hold out for a top class scrum half for next season.
Eastmond - =blueGood player. Can't imagine Saints would entertain releasing him with quota restrictions coming down and homegrown requirements increasing though.
Westerman =blueUnless Cas are up $hit creek financially they would be lunatics to release him. He has 3 and a half years of his current contract to go also.
'"

My suggestion is that we should weigh up the cost of any transfer fee this year against the likelihood it will make a huge difference to the year's final league position. I'd rather hang on for a player of Crocker's class for 2010 than make a compromise signing this year to appease people who want a signing for the sake of it.
On a related point we also need to remember the quota restrictions in 2011 and how signing an overseas player now on a 2 and a half year deal means them taking up a precious quota spot down the line. How many times have people bleated on here about Byrne and Cusack being a waste of a quota spot?
