Quote ="PAUL M"Not writing the kid off but I just don't understand the hype. He is meant to be lightening quick but not seen any evidence of this. He reminds me of Kevin Penny but at least penny came into SL and score a few stunning tries, not seen anything from Lyn either in defence or attack. He's still really young but I can't see I am impressed in any way byt him as yet. Not trying to be harsh but just saying what I see.
That said at least Penny got some decent ball from the Wire side, Lyn has not had that luxury. Then again when we have made breaks I have not seen him using his pace to support the breaks.'"
Have to say I agree 100%. It's one of those where I want to believe what I've heard but just can't see any evidence and until now I thought it was just me! I know he's young but he seems to lack even the basic skills to me. For example - and before anyone shouts at me this may sound a bit harsh - but his passing technique, even when just passing the ball in from the touchline or in-goal area for a penalty/20 metre tap re-start, seems suspect. On the occasions he's attempted chip or grubber kicks they've looked clumsy to say the least. He may have pace, but I've yet to see him blast past anyone, apart from perhaps his earliest touch in Horney's testimonial when he got injured. It's probably a little unfair comparison, but when Tom Briscoe came on to the scene at around the same age you could see the talent/potential straight away but with Lyne, I just don't.
Finally to return to the OP I remember seeing Broughton score a really good try in an away defeat at Warrington a couple of years ago. With that and his other performances it always surprised me we didn't keep him.
