John holroyd our chief scout of many years as sadly passed away, he'd been ill for a while I spoke to him 3 weeks ago and he was in great spirits knowing he'd not long left. A fantastic bloke and servant to our club. It was a privilege to call you my friend. RIP BIG MAN

Yes I knew john very well a real nice bloke. Sad news but like you say he has been poorly for two or three years now. Great clubman as well, hope he gets minutes silence at HKR game

Been the top scout for the club for as long as I can recall. Did an incredible job when you consider what he was up against not least the clubs poor reputation with youngsters through the 80's and 90's in particular. I know it's the coach and CEO who sign the players but John seemed to know the sort of players who would suit the club. He knew we didn't have a sack full of cash so he seemed to concentrate on the youngsters with potential who wanted an opportunity rather than the superstars. We will miss that.

A sad loss, we met John several times in Perpignan, as he traveled by train through France. He made a holiday out of the trip. A sad day RIP John

Cracking bloke was John and will be a big miss for the rugby league community.

He certainly was.

I remember him very fondly from my days at Stanley, but we were also cricketing team mates for several years down at Newton Hill.

I intend to go down and pay my respects, and also raise a glass for him.
