Couple of interesting changes for next year! Not too keen on the zero tackle from a tap restart.
The 10 metres at a scrum is a decent enough rule, but personally I'd have preferred them to change the interpretation of when the ball is out to being at the lf rather than second row.

| The 7 tackle set from a kick dead is a very good rule change. Can't understand why anyone would think otherwise.

| Are these international rules or just UK.?
Defender can still make a moving ball dead by straddling the dead ball line?

Always disliked this rule. It can make a brilliant kick useless for no other reason than they have stepped out of play. Doesn't sit right with me and hoped this was the one rule they would change.

TOTALLY AGREE and the like rule where a player can also catch or touch the ball whilst he has a foot in touch needs scrapping asap

| My take on the rules is that if a player touches a ball when the player is out of the field of play, then it will be considered that the catching player made the ball dead which would result in a drop out. The ball will only be considered to have been made dead by the kicking team if it naturally passes over or touches the deadball line
My only question on this is if a player who is stood behind the line catches a ball which is obviously long, if the ball hasn't touched the floor before they catch it, will they have been considered as taking the ball dead?

Thats how i read it unless the ball hits the line or floor out of play if its caught as you say it willl be deemed as made dead by the player catching the ball

| Good changes. The deadball rule benefited negative play. These revisions will change that and introduce some jeopardy in deciding whether to play or leave.

| Just reading the link regarding 40/20's, and that seems to say that (like the NRL), it will now be a tap re-start rather than a scrum ??

| I like the 40-20 rule.
I also think that the deadbolt change only applies to a still ball.
If you catch it and your foot is out, it is still a tap on 20. It's only when ball has stopped and you try to play it out its a drop out. No?

No?'" no that was the rule already now the ball actually as to touch or go over the line before you touch it or the player receiving the ball will be classed as making it dead

| I thought the rule was changed to how it was to stop the spectacle of a player watching a slowly rolling ball rather than just picking it up with his foot out and bolting for a quick tap. Yes, it was negative but it also speeded up the restart. I suppose it's swings and roundabouts.
It doesn't apply where the ball doesn't bounce first, but it talks about the ball being "stationary". I thought that was always the case. It is the slow bobbling ball that is the problem.

Because if we'd didn't we'd still have line-outs and no tackling!
These are good changes.
