Wakefield Trinity became Wakefield Trinity Wildcats and now there seems to be a quiet campeign to drop the 'Trinity' part of our name via the back door.

The Twitter account is 'Wakefield Wildcats' as is the Facebook page. Journalists and TV presenters constantly refer to the club as 'Wakefield Wildcats' so are we witnessing the slow but premeditated deletion of our historical name?

What would you like to see happen?

As I said on another topic, the guy on the radio today just kept on calling us wildcats, no Wakefield, just wildcats !!

The younger generation relate to the wildcats so Wakefield trinity wildcats does it for me.

My stance is pretty well documented. The stealth change has been happening for a while now, although the Guardian is a shining light with its insistence on referring to the club as Wakefield Trinity. Hopefully in the none too distant future we can drop the childish add on.

When I started watching at 8 in the late 1980s, I would have been the younger generation at the time. At no time did I wish for a cartoon cat to keep me interested.

The “Wildcats” moniker is way past its sell buy, Trinity on the other hand is sacrosanct (hell, my dog is even called it)

I’ve had enough this weekend, what with a trip to Amsterdam, followed by the cancellation of Twin Peaks – I’ve only been waiting 25 years.

But that pales into the number of years I’ve longed to see Trinity win something of some importance, but I suggest to the club they do it quick to ease my conscience when I hopefully relocate to Portugal.

Knowing my luck on all things rugby related, Mr Carter would probably come & live is the same area, just to remind me of our own personal betrays.

Trinity all the way, grew up with it and still call them by it now.

Didn't like it as a kid and still don't.

Can drop the Wildcard name revert back to the original badge but keep Mascot for match days. St Helens don't seem to do too bad without marketing gimmicks. Just need a well run club, some local players to identify with and professional performance on the pitch even up against better opposition.

I don't like the cartoon cat - childish - so revert to the traditional fleur de lys or a modern version of it. Everyone loves Daddy Cool. Keep him as the mascot and if anyone wants to call us the Wildcats as a nickname, so be it. We can still sell wildcat merchandise, Nicknames come and go sometimes eg. Dreadnoughts but we are Wakefield Trinity and Trinity has to stay.

I first started following the club in the 1980s and remember often singing "T-r-i-n-i-t-y Trinity Trinity".

I haven't heard this being sung for decades which I think is really sad. I'd love it if the main group of our supporters who sing during matches would take it up and sing it every game.

Wakefield Trinity is a cool name, a classy name, I always thought it sounded the best out of all the teams in the league when the results were read out on TV and radio. I was so proud that it was my team too. When Wakefield Trinity Wildcats was introduced I thought it sounded like an American baseball or basketball team, far too long and more like trying to be like some of the others, a bit gimmicky really. I wanted us to be the same as St Helens, stick with the name, the tradition. We should have dropped the Wildcats ages ago, I agree with Kev's Head's previous post of using it as a nickname. Don't have a problem with that at all.

Agreed. Ideally I would still prefer the Dreadnought nickname. Use of the Fleur de lis has been incorporated into the shirts without much difficulty. The Wildcats logo does put me off buying any casual wear.

As an outsider...I can understand any club trying to appeal to children, especially given the way football seems to hoover up fans as it becomes more and more global. So some of the new club names have been embraced. I think a lot of Widnes fans like being the Vikings from personal experience.

But I can't say I've observed a lot of love for the Wildcats name, and with Trinity attached it's a bit of a mouthful. Trinity is your identity, wildcats could simply be a nickname (like The Toffees is to Everton etc) and a mascot and the club would benefit much the same from it with the kids. Just my tuppence worth.

I would suggest that this is the least of our worries...

I see no reason why we can't debate any number of things, who's counting or putting a limit on it?

Whether the club places any importance on what's said or polled on here is doubtful anyway.

I'll always prefer just Trinity but i don't see much point in changing anything right now. Bigger fish to fry.

I remember when Trinity re-branded to the cartoon cat - was it about 1999? - the response from Tigers supporters was that it was a copy of our badge and there was even a ridiculous theory that by Wakey using a feline mascot (similar to ours) it was another attempt at a merger of the 2 clubs. I mean if you are going to have to pick an animal you could have avoided picking one of the big/medium cat species - there is another 8 million animal species to choose from.

I'd suggest it was more to do with alliteration and nothing at all to do with what Cas were doing.

By that logic, it reduces your 8 million options by a fair few doesn't it...?
