| Talk about not giving a bloke a chance dont think it will make much of a differance to our game after not winning the last 2 games through the ref and then our own fault I would hope the side have a big point to prove and run away with this one

| Lets face it the bloke wasn't dealt the best of hands.
As for Mr Kool Cash , I bet he's a really demanding boss who wants to be hands on. I feel whoever
gets the job will have a great deal to put up with.

Vievers is First Coaching Casualty of 2013Salford City Reds have parted company with coach Phil Veivers just five games into a season which has seen them with just a single win. New millionaire owner Dr Marwan Koukash was furious after Salford's capitulation to London Broncos on Friday night and made it clear that no-one would be safe from his ambitious plans for a Red future.
Veivers follows director of football Steve Simms, and commercial director Tina Wilkinson, who left the club earlier and he has been replaced by Alan Hunte, in a caretaker role ahead of next weekend's match at Wakefield Wildcats.

| Vievers has certainly been given nothing and probably did well to get any kind of squad together to start the season.
Certainly sacking the coach so soon after taking over will have put the wind up anyone wanting to stay there and one would expect them to be busting a gut next week but, Dr K is certainly throwing his weight about, certainly not trying to assess the situation before making changes.
I bet they're all loving it over there at the moment.

| I can't but help think there's more to it than just having lost the first few games and the Dr had someone in mind a while back (what's Nobby doing now?) If not then why not give Vievers a bit of cash and the chance to build a team first?

True but we wouldn't have a club if it wasn't for him. Still seems a bit harsh but I imagine they just want there own man in and then it will settle down.

| Tony Iro has been mentioned. However I think it's a poisoned chalice, who'd want to work for Koukash other than for the money?

He wont be available until after the world cup ??
Personally,I think Dr K has been a little too hasty and he should have given Vievers the chance to show what he could do, once they had assembled something resembling a full SL squad.
At the moment, their squad is similar in quality to the squad JK had in his last season with us.

| [url=http://www.sportinglife.com/rugby-league/news/article/480/8541941/koukash-wants-salary-cap-increaseSalford owner Marwan Koukash has called for a raising of the Super League salary cap to enable him to pack his side with big-name players[/url
Seems like Dr Koukash would like to see Rugby League go down the Football route where certain teams are allowed to dominate based on their finances.
Good or Bad?
I guess it depends on how rich your owner is!

| To be honest, if they could find a way of stopping people spending what they don't have, I'd get rid of the cap.
I was happy enough when Wigan had all the stars.

| His idea of allowing one / two players beyond the salary cap - to allow clubs to compete for the worlds best - deserves to be heard and considered IMO. The current system is very inflexible.

| It's good that he has big ideas, but he probably needs to learn to walk before he sets off running; Adam Pearson was full of this kind of talk last season and it didn't get him very far.

| Dr Who is clearly going to put lots of money into the Reds and try and buy a team.
I honestly don't know if this is good or bad for the game. I suppose great if your a Salford fan but another hump in the uneven playing field if your a fan of a club wich is not rolling in money.
I hope for the sake of the Salford fans that Dr Who is better than our supposed benefactor of some 10 or so years ago.....

What is the magic ingredient - money / time / knowledge??? I think the reality is all 3 and that means a certain amount of patience is required and expectations need to be kept under control.
Leeds had money for donkeys years, but repeatedly failed at everything. Then they had glimpses until, finally, they invested in a talented bunch of young kids and they are still reaping that reward today.
Hudds have had money and have, as yet, not hit the big time - with a mostly mercenary squad, although there are one or two home grown gems in there.
Wire are the ones to do well with money - their big moment was signing Morley IMO. I know they had other superstars fleetingly, but Morley was the key man - a man who any RL player would love to be associated with. They have also invested heavily in youth and this helps support some of their rather ageing squad.
Hull are trying to replicate the Morley ideal with Ellis - and if they can get him fit then, once again, they have a player who any RL player would love to play alongside - but there is clearly a big question mark just now as to whether this gamble will pay off and, even with Ellis, the rest of the squad seems to lack X-factor appeal.
So what about Salford? Plus - 1 They've got money; 2 they've got Graham Lowe. If they bring in the right coach and don't just say 'win the SL next year at all costs' then they have a chance, but they must invest from the ground up and not expect to be able to push aside established clubs at a whim - it will not work and it shows lack of respect to fellow competitors.
By all means sign some high profile players and generally improve the quality of the playing staff, but invest in youth and work with the people in and around the club where possible - they must love it already to still be there after what has gone on.
Let me put it this way - if an investor came to us now and said they would put £300k in each year from today I would want to see £100k put in the first team; £100k put in the back office / facilities / supporter experience and £100k into youth development / retention. Simply blowing the lot on the next big overseas signing would be pointless IMO.
Good luck to them!

| Quote Ahead of Sunday's tricky trip to Wakefield Trinity he informed the diners at the Rugby Club of Manchester that Salford will be requesting a loosening of their salary cap from the current £1.7m to at least £2.1m for each of the next two seasons to allow them to make up for lost time'" From Andy Wilson..

Whilst I applaud him for rescuing Salford and paying outstanding debts, I think maybe the good Dr should have done some research into the level of incompetence and inflexibilty at Red Hall before ploughing his money in.
I get the feeling he will soon discover that all his money will not get him what he wants this time.
