| Probably a similar issue to Atkins. Felt like he was stagnating a bit, big fish small pond and all that, and needed a change to advance his career. Doubt the cash would have any impact on what is needed for GH (unless they've had a hint of the tax bill coming their way, like ours, and want to balance the bill before it arrives - gives a greater impression of stability).

Could it be to help pay off their fines.

| This is a massive blow for cas whichever way you look at it. Westerman was their future. He was their shining light that they were to build a team around... and now he's gone....
westerman is cas through and through and they havnt been able to keep hold of him. Massive blow for them. Massive!

I've said this all week. Cas are as broke as we are- except we don't have to find 11M+ to fund a stadium.
Even if they sell Joe (who I've never rated) and get the application in they'll still be no better off as they can't afford the build!
IMO the FPP application isn't the crucial one for CT, the Ben Bailey application on WR will be much more significant. That will show a commitment from BB- and will prove to entail a better deal for them. BB have the option to buy WR within the next 12 months- nothing concrete before- and without that sale they will never be in a position to do anything more than apply for PP. FACT.
IMO Cas will be looking at 2013 at the earliest.
(as i've said before for the benefit of the majority of Cas fans I hope GH comes off- but in the case of Amber- I hope it never happens- just to see the worm wriggle!)

| I'd say most clubs have found the day to day running harder in recent years. Not just Cas or us.
And tbf they did make a profit last year, not a very big one but a profit none the less.
A small profit doesn't always mean a business is doing great though. If you didn't have much in the pot to start with a little extra won't turn you into a blue chip company.

| I'd say the only financial crisis at Cas is getting the WR money released before this time next year.
Although if they could find a builder who will work for 6 months without pay they're onto a winner.

It is a blow for Cas, but who is our 'shining light' to build the team around. That's more of a concern to me.

Ben Baileys won't sign anything or pay a penny until planning permission is fully granted for Houses on the WR site. Something we did 2 years ago. They keep telling us that they were in front of us in the stadium race but seem to totally ignore this very important fact. I don't know how easy it will be to getting planning permission for land with such a toxic history!

How can Westerman be Cas through and through? He stated he wanted to leave, so do the club let him leave for free or take the 175K offer from Hull and sign a player who wants to play for the team.

I'd estimate anywhere in the region of 6 weeks to 12 months depending on how urgent BB seem to think creating a plan and getting permission is to them and their own agenda- which has nothing to do with RL or SL or any of our time constraints.

| If BB are using the option (which only cost the £200,000) to "land bank" until the future of the Hicksons site is known that could be potentially devastating for Cas.

I agree and it's very poor business by Hull when you consider he was on their books as a junior!

| I think it is very good business to be honest. He didnt want to play for us, we need th money obviously, Hull were willing to pay over the odds IMO.
Westy is a good player but has been nowhere near the player he should be by now, maybe thats Mattersons fault or maybe its a players desire?? who knows.
Its not such a big blow to the team dynamics as he was playing the same sort of game that Ferres plays only Ferres is playing better IMO.
Theres no denying the stadium is the hot topic at the moment, i cant see the stadium not being built at GH but im not so sure it will be for 2012 TBH, same for Wakefield, i believe it will get called in and eventually granted (i thoroughly hope so as a Wakefield resident), but with the news that you have a solid (and very good) plan B, i think you will be in SL for a very long time, i just hope we are aswel.

| I think Westerman got too big for his boots and his performances suffered.
A new start is what he needs and he will get that at Hull.
I personally believe they have paid well over the odds for him and i am not sure if he is ever going to fulfill his undoubted potential.

It's not Castlefords business savvy I'm questioning TBH.

Not sure if this is a wind up or not but for me Westerman isnt the shining light that we should build around, that player is Chase. Westy went stale and was known for his drinking through the week and turning upto training half drunk. I think it is decent business for us. He wont have improved under Matterson and obviously did not want to stick around so Cas took the money for him now rather than let him leave on a free next season. Why keep an unhappy player in the team that would have done more harm than good? My only worry out of all this is he is very good friends with Chase and may try to tempt him away.
