I noticed in the Wakey Express and the League Express that the TRY Squadbuilder scheme has enabled Trinity to sign 10 of the young boys from our junior scholarship scheme on part time contracts. These boys will be 16 / 17 next season.

In years gone by we have always lost many of these lads to other clubs. So well done to the club and well done to all of you who contribute to Squadbuilder.

This is where it has all gone wrong for us in the past - not being able to get these kids into OUR academy. Clearly we have now got a supply of great talent both in the academy (and looking for longer deals) and coming into the academy to replace them.

For years the club have been slated for allowing a poor return on kids coming into the club. In response to them signing 10 players at this level I would like to say....

Plus, thank you to all of those who have contributed to TRY squadbuilder - your money really does make a difference. If only we had a little more.....

I know we have had a bad couple of years and some of our supporters must be credited with the effort they have put in to raise funds for these worthy causes.

My wish is that we have no more bad news next season and we draw a line under it all now. It would be nice to get people focused on some squad builder funding again and get some effort and momentum in that direction.

Richard Tunningley must also be given a big wrap on this, he is not as in your face as Pete Riding was very different character and i personally felt he may struggle to fill his boots but it has been proven since he came in that the results on the fied and off it by signing these lads, that he has more than filled his boots.


Great effort from Tunnes and the squadbuilder for giving the club the cash to get these lads in.

Things are really looking good for Trinity long term as long as they get the final piece of the jigsaw in place by 2012, long may it continue.

We have certainly improved since Pete Riding moved on. Am I right in thinking he moved on to Huddersfield and I wonder how their acadamy is doing this season

They'll still be playing for Wigan for a couple more years

Its unfair to compare directly all clubs are at different levels when it comes to junior rugby. Hudds although do not have much in the pipeline in my opinion have a few very special players, at least so far as SL level is concerned in there ranks.

I think they have a different ethos to Wakefield, which is fine, at the end of the day its not about winning Academy championships in my opinion, it is about producing top quality rugby players, and while the results may not be there at the moment, compared to last year (which i blame on the change in coaching staff

), they certainly seem able to produce 1 or 2 very good players every year for the last couple who look to have big futures in the game.
