Quote "I suppose I have a similar approach to life as Danny does. We both have our quirky ways but we get on pretty well. I suppose two misfits make a good fit. I know Danny is no choirboy but it's a little like keeping a dog. As the saying goes, stroke him nine times but remember to kick him once in a while.'"

| i dont think anyone does. i think its embarrassing for the game when an international captaion does this kind of thing. its a shame for scotland, if everyone eligible played it would be a pretty good side.

Exactly, and if Scotland means so much to him he would not be ditching them like he is.

| if he doesnt want to wear the shirt, he shouldnt have worn it in the first place. to be honest, i dont think he will be selected for england anyway. i think half backs are pretty nailed on with burrows/mcguire/pryce and probably myler now for the next few years with tomkins pushing into that group.

And if I was Scotland coach I would not pick him. I know he is quality player and is a big player for Scotland when he plays but after what he has said I would forget about him.
I am a bit Scottish so like to see them do well

I also liked this bit
"Wakefield will play the Bradford Bulls in the second of three Saturday matches but, while the rugby league fans will fill Edinburgh's nightspots, the players will be on the bus back home. Kear's team should beat the Bulls but the coach admits that if it doesn't happen he and the rest of the team knows that it isn't the end of the world; two recent experiences have given them a better perspective what is really important in life"
Seems like the national press have some confidence in us - maybe it was written before Bradford beat Saints last week.

sad thing is he can walk into that team, because the depth of players who qualify isnt that great.

It's no different in the other code of rugby either, but I agree with you and Adam that as far as internationals go, you should stick with your original allegiance. That said, it matters bugger all in terms of medals, as neither Scotland nor England have a hope in hell of winning anything that means anything in rugby league terms... at least not in Brough's playing career.

This situation has been created by the RFL by them playing touring sides as England.
We are not strong enough to have equal home nations - so if Broughy wants to play against Aus / NZ more than once every 5 years then he has to switch - and if he doesn't back himself to make the grade - who will.
I've said before - we should have a single entity of GB for tours / tri/quad-nations, then revert to home nations at the WC. England should compete with the home nations with what's left after the GB call-ups - it would weaken England more than the other nations and help to level out the comp.
The current arrangement will be fine in 2035 when we have SL licences in at least 2 cities in Wales, Scotland & Ireland!

| What I took from it was that there was a full page article on rugby league in a scottish newspaper/webpage. That is a first, and so we should look at the bigger picture.
A purist would say that once you pick your country, that should be it. I've some sympathy with that, as how else are the other UK nations going to put out a team if the star players are going to defect every time they get a sniff of an England shirt. Or rather, nothing interesting will happen in a Scotland shirt, and so might as well hedge my bets and go for England.
However, many people would say he is English anyway. English mother, born in England and brought up in England. Even on the most liberal agenda, he is English.
Would I have played it differently if I was Danny Brough? No. He played in a world cup. If he wants to play against the best, he will have to be English, and he is English. Certainly more English than he is a Scot, I would wager.

The latter explains the former. Do they give him simple jobs to do, like cleaning out the bins at the back?
