Setanta are cutting their NRL games down to 1 a week instead of the 2 or3 they can show. They advertise a minimum of 2 games a week for subscribers. They are doing this for the next 2 months. Apparently they explained to a Wigan fan that they were covering extra Magners Rugby Union games. I have sent a strongly worded email threatening to cancel my subscription if the NRL games are not reinstated. I got Setanta via Freeview purely for the NRL games only to discover their coverage on Freeview is from midday but the NRL games are shown prior to midday. I complained but got nowhere!

In fairness, the games are shown live from Australia so they would be before midday. You would have been better checking the schedules and broadcasting times before subscribing. Setanta by Broadband might be better for you...

I just called to cancel my Setanta subscription. When asked why I told them the reason was that they had cut the NRL games from what was originally to be 3 a week, which last year became 2 a week and for the next two months is set to be one week.

They have asked me if I would be interested in an offer and have told me that their customer service team will call me back in the next half an hour.

When they've done that I will write an update.

OK, here's the update, Setanta have just called me back and after checking my reasons for cancelling they offered me £9.99 a month. The only caveat to this was that my 12 month contract would restart tying me to them at that price. £9.99 a month is excellent value in the range of sports that Setanta show however I declined because of the 12 month tie in.

They very quickly offered me £6.50 per month for the next three months with no 12 month contract. That's a great deal and it allows me to reassess my subscription with them at the end of the three months.

Well it worked with ESPN Classic, who didn't used to show old RL games until a few of us on the VT complained. Now they do occasionally.

As much as I like watching rugby league, there's far much more on there (ESPN America for one), which is worth it to me than just the NRL, which I could take or leave anyway.

If anyone is paying more than £9.99 they need to cancel anyway and rejoin. I'm paying £12.99 to have it in two rooms. I don't have the time to watch more than one a week anyway, with Sky games and Trin games as well. If I sat down to watch 3 NRL games on top, think I would find my clothes by the front door.

if you can get cable in your area you get satanta free with the xl package

I've now got it for £6.50 per month and because I already have Sky multi room I get it on the second Sky box as well.
