This deal to bring a mate for todays game for £11 is a load of tosh.
A mate of mine as just rung saying he will come to game as it is only £11 he last saw them a few years back. But I have just checked and you had to apply for this offer before th 12th of March so you can't just turn up with a mate and pay on the gate.

Lost money and maybe some armchair fans again, I think for Wakefield.

The logistics of having such an offer on the gate would make it near on impossible to organise and would cause chaos at the turnstyles. It was a decent offer advertised over about three weeks so there was fair notice for people to take advantage, the club can't cater for every fans spur of the moment decisions, and no other club that has similar offers allows them to be used in a walk up fashion.

Seems like whatever the club does to promote itself there will always be someone who can find fault with it



BTW, if your mate last came some years ago and he's only prepared to come today on the cheap then it's unlikely that he will come again having to pay full price so it's no big loss is it really.

What is wrong with some people, honest to god it clearly states the terms of the deal on the promotional letter. That is the deal end of, it's clearly the deal the club wanted to offer - get a grip.

Spot on, this is why I'm glad we don't do a lot of freebise and cheap deal, it just attract freeloaders who have no intention of ever paying the propper rate. No loss at all - and I for one am not happy to subsidies these people. You pay the going rate in my book, nothing more nothing less.

What some don't seem to realise is that rather than being an earner for the club, an offer like this is just as likely to lose them money, if there are say four mates that go to home games together regularly and two are s/t holders and two are not then all that is going to happen is that the two with s/t's are going to get their mates cheap tickets, the only incentive for the club on offers like this is to get more people in the ground and make the attendance look good for a game which historically has a poor attendance.

I wanted to pick up two tickets for friends but could not make it to the shop in time so i understand what you are saying, i just don't know how the could have done it any other way.

TBH they could have reduced the gate fee today even though i would lose out as a S/T holder.

maybe put two vouchers into the season tickets giving them entry for a discounted rate, then they could choose the game that they would like to watch

If they'd have reduced it to £11 as the offer was then for every regular fan that came and got the reduction they would have had to get a newbie to come to balance the books so to speak. don't know how many we have paying on the gates but it must be the majority so the club could have been looking at needing in the region of 8k attendance to stand still, not realistic IMO, and as we keep hearing that we've got no brass there's no point in losing it for an offer that reallistically isn't good enough to attract the non committed in great numbers.

Why should you? It's you're opinion and you're entitled to it but as far as I'm concerned it's a no. If the gate is low then it's low so be it, why do any club feel the need to justify themselves. If the club has costed it out that the cost of a match is X,Y and Z then that is what it is and everyone (with the odd exception) should pay it, always.

Frankly if the only reason someone can be bothered to give Wakey a try is because it's cheap then frankly I can do without them. Feel very strongly on this one.

Not against kids promotions, or even ladies days but to subsidise some lazy/complacent b*gger to leave the pub or armchair forget it.

If we had 5k fans and 5k ticket holders then reduced gate price for the odd game would work, but as you say it just won't add up.

I understand that view but IF they come back then its a winner, there are people out there who have never been before and may just enjoy and come back, if you don't dip your toe in the water you won't know if its cold

I agree with Vasty, no point in coming just for a one off because it is cheap, the point of this offer is to try and get people to come back.

We and a few mates got a couple of lads hooked so far and they have been to each of the home games plus Wigan and Leeds away. They would not have come if we did not ask them and tell them it's a good laugh.

I know the point you're making and it's a fair one, but for me it flies in the face of human nature. If you cheapen a product then IMHO it remains cheap.

The Bulls are a perfect example. When at the start they were doing well and swelling their crowds with freebies all seemed well. However now the folk of Bradford have come to expect it and won't pay full wack, which wasn't the intention I'm sure. The Bulls were expecting to build a base of support by tempting folk with subsidised tickets, now when they need them these people are the first to leg it - probably to city who are currently giving it away.

Me I'd rather build slowly and trust the product to sell itself. 1000 people paying £20 gets the same as 2000 paying a tenner. The biggest myth of all is that these extra people spend at the ground, but I suspect they don't. I reckon someone who is only willing to attend on a freebie or cheapy won't cough up £2 for a tray of soggy chips.

Not great, but not too bad either.

it did look fuller than that though, then again thats about 4,500 home fans and good strong support to the team too.

Hopefully the new great offer pulls a few more in. Well done those who were there...I hope we improve that for the visits of Celtic and Harlequins.

If the tarrif had been reduced for all the could not the club have faced challenges from season ticket holders who were sold the tickets on the back of avdertising sepcifying the saving over a season.

I wonder about forming an agreement with neighbouring clubs (maybee NL1 teams) for reduced entry to the Catalan and Quinns fixtures for their season ticket holders. The atmosphere was very poor.

As I remember it this offer was open to season ticket holders to introduce a friend and the ticket holder got a ten pound voucher to spend in the shop, this is only a suggestion but if the season ticket holder was told to bring a friend and on production of the letter the friend would be admitted for £11 and a voucher would be issued to the season ticket holder which had to be spent on the day thus generating income into the shop/ club and introducing a potential new lifetime supporter and the loyal supporter who could be bothered to get a season ticket would get something as well.

Now since joining this forum I have noticed that people are getting shot down for voicing opinions now to me thats what forums are all about, so instead of having a go at a chap that felt let down by the club lets assist him and the club by offering suggestions.

I will now get off my soap box and for those who know me I will jump off so you know when I’m down.

The risk there is we'll end up with a load of fev fans cheering on the other team and the possibility of trouble, which in turn might stop some fans from coming again!
