OK, there's a thread for Drew / JD / Grix and Stosic, but the stats seem to suggest that the game would have been very different had it not been for our little Sam.

He is a tremendous workhorse - and yet, in that little frame, he has no right ot be. If there is a player in SL who is stronger / tougher and has a bigger engine that Sam, then I don't know who that is.

AS JK said, it was Sam who followed up Martin's kick; it was also Sam who kicked through for our second try and, his incredible 41 tackles (most of 'em on Paleasina), are all something we very much take for granted these days.

And to think we nearly didn't manage to keep him!!!??

couldn't agree more. my sister lives in brisbane and her boyfriend is into league and when we were chatting about wakey and going through our squad he recognised obst. he didn't believe me when i said he was a tackling machine and so i sent him the super league stats link comparing him to stosic, the next best tackler

yea obsty is defo a great team player, can score a try out of nothing, a great little worker.

Pound for pound he is by far our best tackler.

Didn't flinch once when palleasena was running at him.

Great engine and a great player.

Sign him on a long term contract now!!!

Obst was tremendous and he was tackling Feka as if they were the same weight. Top performane SAM!!

Obst is a terrific player and would be first name down on my team sheet. Pound for Pound one of the best in Super League and i am sure he would tackle Goliath if he had to.

I have been saying for a while for mine Sam is the most under-rated player in SL.

Probably yes, i think he is just about doing enough although BC will always be a legend.

the difference between sam and some of those players is that sam never stops working. fantastic team player, defence and attack, (without attitude)

Having had the pleasure of seeing both the answer is a resounding yes.

For starters (touch wood) Obst is much more robust and less injury proned.

Secondly although Billy could be sensational he was not IMHO as consistent as Sam.

Of course it's always hard to compare a part time players with a full time pro. The protection, training and care the modern day players get was something Billy, Belly and the rest couldn't even imagine.

said it before and ill say it again, sam is a very important part of our current set up and a quality player, in my view a natural replacement to JD in the fans favourite catagory. intresting in the recent 13 from super league thread he was almost always there.

Long term contract to me is no risk and increased terms too, id rather see the money go to him that some unproven player we bring in. and with that i mean proven it with wakefield.

struggle to disagree with you Vasty - just thought comparison was interesting.

Reminds me a lot of Rob Burrow. I rate Obst highly.
