| This thread is a reasonable discussion as far as I am concerned and I would like to make a couple of further points.
First of all, isn't it nice to hear from shudds fans telling us how good grix is and he will be an excellent signing for US !!!
but not good enough to play for THEM!!!! very codecending as usuall , so nothing changes there.
Secondly the reason there is so much discussion is that its not directly about Grix but what he represents. To me once more it shows a lack of ambition and imagination.
People are saying a lot of good things about Grix and no doubt he has earned those respecfull comments for what he has done over the years, However JD earned similar and even better comments but he went on at least one season too long and that is my main worry with Grix. After all I clearly remember that dross called Reilley who came to us from shudds with identical praise from their fans.

The clue is in the term Injury Prone, it happens to many players when they get into their 30`s, others younger. You are happy to add Grix to Germond, Moore, Toupou and Gibson ( who I think is a very good player ), possibly a sixth of the squad who will be fit for less than half the games.
Think you might be correct he looks like he has got faster over the last two seasons.
Two excellent young lads just signed from London under 19`s for SL clubs. Not sure if you get the opportunity to watch under 19`s and under 23`s but their are some cracking players around Vasty. Only know a few people in RL never said I new everyone.
The players agents I know hint at the cost of players, parents of players advise of offers received.
Yes you are correct Wigan , Leeds, Saints, Warrington, Catalans, Hull, Cas, Salford, Widnes and KR were gutted when they lost out on signing him.
Ex directors of the club at the time told me and who the hell told you I was honest.
Have been correct 19 / 20 on player assessment, have never slated Ashurst. Anakin is a God who has been over bulked by old fashioned fitness coach, they need to get a stone of muscle of him and get him playing longer minutes.'"
As ever no fact just bluster. Oh and you most certainly did badmouth Ashurst.

It's strange. I know many of us myself included post on here in a more strident and emotional way than we do face to face. However the posting Belly as opposed to the real one are so far apart it's hard to reconcile them - has his account been hacked! I know all about alter ego's and wind ups but this one is getting really extreme and oddly personal in a targeted way.
Oh well....

| Grim has played in the second row too, I think. I think he's a good signing because you can never fault him for effort and commitment.
It always felt to me, even right back to his Widnes days, that he played at full back because there was nowhere else to play him. He was suspect for a long time under the high ball but you could tell from his technique that he worked hard on that aspect. I've always said that he is one of those players who is a fine player but there was always someone better than him in whatever position he chose. He is a great utility player and I can see him going well in the second row.

Freudian slip there mate?
Don't ever remember him playing in the second row to be honest, loose forward i think but nowhere else in the pack. Could be wrong though. Has played anywhere 1-7 though, although these days he has slowed down a bit so might not be as effective. Time will tell how it will go but still would have gone with one year and an option for the second.

He's good enough for us that's for sure. We don't currently have a better fullback.
Don't forget who starts the next season as a top 8 side.
I believe you've signed a top 8 side fullback. If he hadn't of been injured and had played more games I believe we would of avoided the bottom 4. He was that important to us. Only a handful of giants fans would agree though.
That is just my opinion though.

| Through all the moaning about Grix, if you look a bit deeper into the possible reason a 32 year old has been given a 2 year deal.
It maybe because he has and is in top shape condition wise.
I'll leave the rest open to interpretation.

I've not said he's not good enough for us- I wish he was staying!
As for Reilly- cut him in half he had Huddersfield running through his middle. Claret and gold runs through his veins. He was gutted to be leaving his hometown club and suffered from depression as a result- not dealt with well by either your club or ours at the time.
Paul Reilly was and is a legend at Huddersfield. He didn't have the passion for your club he did for ours. Sometimes it's just like that. Calling Reilly dross is absolutely unimaginable to us!

If Kear signs players who chester is doesn't rate then its a recipe for disaster and friction within the club. After all, get the signings wrong and its Chesters head on the block.
I would be interested to know how it all pans out.

What a pessimistic way of looking at the relationship between Dir of Rugby and Head Coach...
With all his years of experience, can you really envision JK picking out a potential target, and foisting him on Chester against his will? I expect the arrangement will be much more collaborative and cooperative than that - unless JK is prone to career suicide, which I don't think he is.

Misinterpretation I was only questioning the fact that people seem to be of the opinion Kear is in charge of recruitment. I agree all parties have to work and agree on a common objective. However I would suggest that for it to work as a success Chester must have the final say and not Kear

| Anyone fancy reviewing their comments on here?
As well as Grix looked himself, his role in organising the defence was massive!
Early days, but we saw some of the reason behind his signing today!

Think I'll wait until halfway through the season and we've faced the 10 better teams than Leeds.

I wasn't against signing Grix as I can see the utility value he brings, but even on today's showing the full back shirt is still Jowitt's to lose. It was obvious last season that Max needed a rest, but we just didn't have the squad to do it. Grix will allow him to have that break without a massive gulf in quality.

Sadly some less knowledgeable Giants fans didn't see his worth in this regard- they only saw his mistakes.

F/b are like goalkeepers in that regard. I fully supported Grix what i don't get is this idea being peddled that he's better than Jowitt - he isn't imho.
If anything they are very similar especially in organisation. I think Grix is excellent but no better than max.
Both have a flaw, Max one on one tackling near the line needs a lot of work.
Those lording Grix should wait until he's fumbled the umpteenth high ball and cost us a game because he will.
Max has time to learn Grix not so on balance it's Jowitt every time for me.

| Lets not over egg the pudding here. Grix, like the majority of the team, played a part in humbling Leeds. Congrats on that and no complaints from me.
However, he did make a few Grixesque errors including one of his specials when he was indecisive watching that nothing ball behind the line and got clobbered into dead. How costly could something like that be in a competitive game?
