| Quote ="vastman"Exactly.
If I were Atkins I'd be thinking why am I not being described as awsome considering I played 80 mins, tackles like a deamon and did everything right.
Yet instead in true Trinity style we wet ourselves over a single Aussie who had a half decent start but may well implode due to off field issues.
I'm really peed off with this thread. We see our team produce yet another top notch effort but it's all about Bird. This is Bird a player who as yet has done sod all in SL but hey let's all look over the fence and rue what we haven't got instead of praising what we have.
To all the star gazers on this thread I ask a simple question, which of our under achieving squad would you sacrifice to fit in this Dame Edna level megastar?
Logically I'd drop JD for him as he's probably make a better utility player.
Yes folks this is what we are talking about here or you could go for Gleeson or Atkins or even Martin the choice is yours.'"

In no thread have I made one negative comment about our side from yesterday, made one suggestion of dropping, changing or getting rid of any player - but yes, I though Greg Bird was fantastic, but that is my opinion and you are entitled to yours.'"
I'm not digging at you in particular or anyone in general it just happens you used the expression "awesome" which from you seemed way OTT as I have to say is "fantastic" he just wasn't IMHO. I'm just amazed that we have a thread this long as regards one player who doesn't play for us whilst Fergusons has limped to two pages - where is the logic I just don't get it. Yes it is all about opinion and mine is that I can't see how he has warranted such adulation on that one showing, he just didn't.
Clearly Bird is a good player by reputation and showed glimpses but he hasn't earned it in SL yet and there is no guarantee he will. Trent Barrett was a decent SL but he never IMO quite lived up to the billing. I just think we are too quick to praise them just because they do what they are supposed to do, I saw nothing that was extraordinary or much better than was on offer elsewhere. The fact that he had just arrived is a red herring IMHO, in a way it's easier for a player to do that as he has nothing to lose, it's a ready made excuse. See how he goes in 6 games time or even if he is still here.
Yes I would sign him if he became available in the close season, but for now he is not a Trinity player and that doesn't bother me and if he proves a great buy for Catalan that doesn't bother me either.
I'm happy with what we have, I'm a simple old fool like that. Finally your opinion is always most welcome in my book and always will be even when it gets a bit flowery

Agreed, maybe I shouldn't but the praise heaped on this bloke amazes me it really does. Forgive me, maybe I will just have to accept that in this case I clearly don't get it - whatever it is

Come off it, There's many threads about 3/4 on different players they all played well yesterday, however cant have a thread about everyone cos they all played so well, I thought fergie played excellent yesterday however i have all season and dont want to appear to love a player and back him at every opportunity . There's also a thread on very proud and there has been numerous about how well we've dont this season.
This is a thread about the different opinions of an opposistion player. If vastman dosent want to read about this, and would like to focus on our team i suggest he dosent read this thread.

| I have to say that the generality of your postings regarding this matter I agree with. Many posters are, in my opinion, overly hasty to elevate players to world, and international class without sufficient evidence to juastify these claims.
Frequently players simply have to perform their jobs consistently for their international potential to be touted on here.
I don't think it does players any favours to be prematurely praised. I would urge caution regarding Fergie in this respect. Lets not confuse consistently doing his job well with anything other than consistency.
The flip side to this is that players end up playing under the pressure of unrealistic expectations.

Correct - it's pretty obvious really and if mwildcat re-read the comments he's see that instead of being Birds biggest teenybop fan
And to think how much stick you get for your alleged Atkins obsession - at least you have the decency to obsess about a actual Trinity player

Well when a player gets praised, and rightly so, there's not so much you can add to the postings, however if a player is slagged off this creates a debate of different opinions and therefore racks up more posts.
We dont often have a topic about another player and how he played, and I am sooo happy with what we've got and how were playing atm i thought id add my opinions on what I saw.

Rubbish, but you can add how well Bird played but not a Wakey player
And that's not the point one bad game "so and so is " After a quality start to the season by many players no mention for some of them even though they got lot's of stick on here last season.
Sometimes I think we need to look at our own players more and praise them instead of ignoring the talent we have and dribbling about players at other teams who did not even play all that well

I do respect your opinion - I do not respect your right to talk on behalf of "others" or your assumption that my opinion isn't respected. Frankly I'm not bothered either way what others think of my opinions, I am slightly bothered that you feel you have the moral high ground on credibility, did someone tell you you were good?
Try not to get too up tight, calling Adam AWSOME was a bit of humour...

I think we may be telepathic on this one. That is exactly my point, I think Trinity fans have simply forgotten the simple pleasure of supporting a winning team (however long that last). All we seem able to do is either find a few negatives or in this case salavate over a player who frankly did little more than you would honestly expect.
If this were the Cas forum (god bless them) they would be waxing lyrical about their great team full of young home grown players blah blah and already be booking their tickets (unrealistically) for Old Trafford. They know how to support a winning team, they may be as fickle as us when they are losing but they know how to enjoy it when it goes well.
If this were Cas, and Westerman was playing like Fergy there would be a 20 page thread (mainly b*llocks) whilst Bird would have two lines on an O/T thread.
We need to stop being so dour and just enjoy for a change - it's not like start of seasons with 4 from 6 are the norm. Remember this is the team that got us to within a kick or two of Wembley last year and deserve far more respect than the pundits gave us at the start of the season so if we don't bull them up who will and I know TRB feels the same on that point.
Odd one this thread as I don't think Bigal ever intended it to be serious - bad bad Al!

| It seems as though some Wakefield fans have a higher opinion of Bird than the Dragons fans do if their board is anything to go by.I personally thought he was one of their better players yesterday, and would benefit from a better team round him, still enjoyed seeing him get mullered a couple of times though.

he showed some real class with ball in hand and he looks difficult to bring down. as has been said already i reckon he'll end up being a top SL player in time if he sticks around

He is much more suited to the backrow, either a ball handling secondrow/loose. He played 6 in Australia at a time when Cronulla had no specialist 6 and was excellent, hence why he was selected as a 6 for Australia.

Take no notice of the knackers written by some posters - I think somobody should bookmark this thread and we can come back to it in a couple of weeks when the guy has some proper preperation. Back row would be best for him based on yesterday, but even out of condition and just off a plain he didnt look out of place at 6 before he started blowing.
