I'm afraid I don't agree, his defensive game would improve in training to the point it's deemed it's SL standard. Sure game experience helps as it's at 100% speed but there is clearly something that Max isn't doing through the week that prevents him from playing.

I also don't agree on the point about sticking young british players in. You may want to take another look at our squad and see just who he backs when fit.

I've watched him on the organising defense. He seems to panic the defense. I've seen him 3 different times call to a player to move only for the opposition to run straight through the gap he left. Two were tries.

Maybe if I'd watched the others they would do the same but Walker seems much calmer when the line is being attacked. Grix was excellent at it. As was Mathers.

Was just thinking the same LW, if all the posters studied past FB they will find faults and they played regularly, while Grix as been mentioned his organisation, distribution and positioning was dreadful at Wakefield a player who frustrated me like hell but had a knack of holding his hands up and suggesting someone else’s at fault, I suppose you can guess I wasn’t his biggest fan, my opinion also.

I’ve never played in a pro team. I’m guessing it’s not easy coming from the academy and bossing seasoned pros. That’s the downside people don’t see when they demand young players get promoted. Maybe it’s those players who aren’t listening. Key roll is FB these days.

Max either needs a long run at FB or get loaned out for a season. He’d join a Championship side where he’d be considered an experienced player rather than an apprentice.

Those of us of a certain age know that sometimes the only way to stop being the eternal apprentice is to go elsewhere. Doesn’t need to be permanent but it would probably help.

I know TJ and Ellis made it through the ranks but as I say they were/are stars. Max is like most players he can only progress by learning.

Wakefield fans are really odd that way.

They demand local talent from the Academy. Yet the first players they turn on are the very same lads. I’ll never get it.

Cas fans really protect their youngsters, I admire them for that even if it can get ludicrous at times.

I know what you mean. I’ve never seen a player who manages to be the MOM and the worst player on the park in the same game.

In that infamous Saints game he was having a blinder when under no pressure he had a monumental brain fart. I understand why some resent him. Most will forgive mistakes but some are almost indefensible and that was one.

I’ve watched that game a few times since and his actions still baffle me. They are rookie errors from a player who isn’t a rookie and had no excuse and his entire career was the same.

That said I liked him because he gave us something but he was never going to be a genuine contender, there was something missing.

Because he managed some great plays he got away with it where others wouldn’t, definitely a maverick.

Tell you what Vasty you’re spot on with the seasoned pros not listening or like being told trust me. Some people think that if you’ve played the game a long time that you’ve got summat between the lug holes and it’s not always the case and like football players if they couldn’t run fast they wouldn’t bring owt to the table.

You keep on about Grix but is tackling was worse than Jowitt .He was the main reason why Jowitt lost his way .Grix was lucky he played in the team which was at it's peak with at least 5 players who could and did go 90 meters.Max should have been at fullback then .

Human nature, I’m old now and sometimes it’s hard to be bossed by someone younger than your own kids. I’m ashamed to admit it but sometimes I make life difficult for them just because I can. Nothing truly evil and it probably helps them in the long run.

It’s funny how people suspend reality and believe that somehow players leave the womb fully formed. They don’t, all but a tiny few are ready mentally at the same time as they are physically.

I have all the time in the world for any youngster who tries, those who pee away a god given talent I have less sympathy for.

You can't go back and rewrite history because you feel there needs to be someone to blame for Max not being no. 1.
Grix was getting man of the match for fun. He was a big part of making the team tick.
It doesn't take anything away from Max that someone else was better.

I alway wonder how far max,Jordan,and batch would have advanced, not their playing careers As they are already in a super league club, but in their development as they are still young up and coming players with the RL world at their feet and a bright future to boot,as well as eager to learn.if they’d have come through say the saints or wires or Wigan’s set up.Suppose that’s academic now as they are in the Wakefield set up and long may it continue.

Just to change it away from Jowitt. I see what everybody's saying about the young ones at Wakey, But don't you think it's a just a theory that you see others coming through at all or most the other clubs that whoever they bring in from the academy are all built like brick outhouses & nearly all about 6ft2 & over & 17 stone while Batch, Crowther & Co & I'm not knocking them but are smaller in stature & dare I say it have less clout I'm probably way off the mark here but it's something I've thought for a while & before anybody starts I'm not knocking anybody here It's just something I'd put out there & see what people thought

As the season is mathematically gone now with the percentage we should 100% focus on giving the young players and fringe players as much time as possible. Players like Crowther, batch, Jowitt, Bailey, aydin, gwaze and Croft. Giving these guys a string of 8 SL games will massively bring them on and will also sort out who has the ability to be a valuable member of the 2021 squad. It can only be beneficial for squad strength next year.

We should focus on next year and preparation for 2021 starting now. Including recruitment.
