The 0.2% figure is the current estimate I've arrived at doing some research across the medical spectrum.
This represents the fatality percentage rate of an average population that will die from coming into contact with the virus.
In other words '2 in every 1000 people' will die compared to the seasonal flu, estimated lower at '1 in every 1000'.
As it stands, its therefore twice as deadly as the seasonal flu. However as we all know this virus is not the flu; it targets more of the elderly demographic and its affects on the human body are different to that of the flu.
Nevertheless this is good news as it's way lower than the scaremongering media predicted between, last time I checked the WHO estimated 30 - 50 people would die in every 1000 (3 - 5%).
Another measure is the infection mortality percentage rate, this will obviously be much lower because not all the general population have come across the virus yet. The UK is currently at 0.06% (even though we've performed really poorly).
In terms of infectious nature of the disease, it appears to be more infectious than the flu but with this being a coronavirus I'd expect this to be the case.
I still need to find out how this can be calculated as there doesn't seem to be any mass anti body testing being undertaken to measure the speed of transmission and the actual numbers of people that have come into contact with it.
We can however look at the Flu estimates, which predict up to 5 million people in the world can be severely affected by the flu in one year.
Currently there are globally 8,313,703 confirmed cases of COVID, of this number i've not managed to determine how many of them would be defined as severe.
Again, more information is needed on the severity of the confirmed COVID cases and infectious nature of the disease compared to the flu. I'll keep digging for answers when I find the time, bit difficult as I'm working full time again now. Please note, I accept any comparison with the flu is flawed, but I've got to use the estimates provided even if they are based on unreliable models. I've nothing else to go off and the medical centres have never performed flu tests on the industrial like scale for COVID19.
As for current COVID rates, peak infection for respiratory diseases usually last up to 70 days then it will naturally tail off regardless of many interventions. Fingers crossed most of the countries across the world are of the woods.

Let's face it, the majority of people in the UK don't priortise data, evidence or scientific research. All we are concerned with is 'likes' on social media, character assassination, censorship and political point scoring. Scientific debates aren't welcome, certainly not on the mainstream media. Everything is about pushing an agenda. Look at basic facts of health; the number of people affected by cancer, heart disease and dementia. They far exceed the damage done by this virus and not even a whimper made by the media. The whole scandal to this virus is plain and simple; there is a complete lack of a sensible response to a coronavirus that has been blown way out of proportion.

Simple maths and listen to the reports from the regions of Spain.
If more than 1 region reports a death in any particular dat, there has to be more than one death nationally.

Expect something similar here and then a relaxing of social distancing to 1 metre, allowing more businesses to open and making it easier for kids to get back to school.
Then, just hold your breath and hope that we dont end up back where we were 3 1/2 months ago

I can see your logic but I need you to provide evidence to support this as a truth.
So far all the countries that got this virus under control and came out of lockdown have shown no indication of a second wave.
The evidence in data shows like all viruses, it has burnt itself out. It's time to fully reopen society and then act cautiously once Winter comes around again.

My main reason for doubting your credibility is that you are outraged at everything that is mainstream. Even grumpy Willzay has a balance to his views sometimes and can laugh about it when proved wrong. You just come across as desperate when you can't see even a chink of light in anybody else's point.

Just when you think Johnson and the government could not get any worse they choose this time to waste almost a million pounds to paint his plane in red white and blue, a minister breaks the Covid press conference rules by criticising the opposition who must have the right of reply and then the health secretary breaks the self distancing rules.
I know they couldn’t break any more promises but yes because apparently the app in the track and trace may not be ready until winter. We have no need to worry because it is not that important because we have our tracers. It would be worth ridiculing the disaster if it was not for the facts that these failures have caused unnecessary deaths.

The last could but it is systematic of how the whole pandemic has been handled. It is not possible to get away from the fact that our number of excess deaths makes us one of the worst in the world.
