If we want to change the stand off move sykes to FB and put lee Smith in where he played for half the game against cas and some time vs wigan and did not disgrace himself. I personally think the positives outweigh the negatives of sykes game. He made a balls up of the kiick for touch kicking too high in the wind and threw a crap pass which bombed a try. But he also kicked well for goal in the wind, distributed the ball well and scored points. All players make mistakes i dont understand why we are blaming paul for the defeat. If we hadnt missed tackles, if we had wrapped up the ball rather than letting them pass the ball would it have been different who knows. Most people are not blaming Sykes for the defeat - Just one buffoon who has to have someone to pick on and as Mathers was missing he has chosen Sykes to take the blame.

Although Syke's failed kick was a sickener I thought Amor's loss on that 1st tackle on half way gave Warrington a score and a big lift when we were totally dominating.
There was a period at 22 - 24 when we also took some poor last kick options downs the east stand side. Lee Smith, Kirmond then Cockayne all put in poor grubbers, the last one giving Hodgson possesion on their 40 metre mark which then lead to the 22-30 scoring.

I had Sykes as my MOM with Aiton 2nd, he actually showed some of his form from last season and scord a couple of good tries, movement off the ball behind the attacking line was very good, smith looked a natural at FB the only downside was we weren't as organised and I think we missed mathers for that. Thoroughly great game and typical WTW rollercoaster ride, should have won and bar a couple of confusing deccisions we might well have done, saying that I blame our defence more than the ref and you always play to the whistle.

The kicks were stupid play - brainless. We have 2 quality kickers and we had the wind behind us. We had the chance to create an opportunity or to pin them down near their line - instead we gave them too many yards, invited them into our half and that is where we come undone defensively.

Lee Smith to stand off and Sykes to full back for me. Next year we need a specialist stand off to compliment T Smith as Sykes is a centre/fullback and has been most of his career.

What makes Sykes a good stand off please tell me? First half he randomly kicked it when nobody was ready the try he scored was a strong run a centres run. I think Cockyne would create and with a bit of coaching would communicate better. Hes a very good passer better than sykes he can make darting runs and can also kick the ball very well. Give him a go Vasty he cannot be any worse !

I honestly think Sykes is a really good player, just not at stand off, although he is obviously trying his best. We need an out and out stand off simples. Although I think with Sykes at fullback he would be really good joining the attacking line, and his defence is better than Mathers.

At last some sense. Sykes made his name at fullback he isn't smart enough for a stand off we are kidding ourselves. Fullback he was excellent at London. I would give him a go there.

Sykes is a fantastic player to have at Wakefield as he can cover 1 to 6, I would just be intrigued to give Lee Smith a run at 6 and put Sykes to fullback. Agar is the coach though and obviously see's Sykes as the best 6 at the club.

One thing I can agree with is that a priority signing for next season is a good quality HB to partner Tim Smith; easier said than done though - they are in short supply.

Sykes has played 6 successfully for us in the past so there is no point Shouty Shouterson saying he can't play there. Just seems another rant about a player for one specific thing (missing touch) without understanding what else is happening on the field.
Saying that I commented before that I would give Lee Smith a go and swap Sykes to Fullback.

Would love to see how things go with Sykes at 1 and Smith at 6 but lets remember Smith helped Leeds win a grand final playing at 1.

Have to agree with the poor grubbers. I'm of the belief that if you get into your oppositions 10 you must at least push for another set of six or force an error with the kick on the last tackle. We turned over the ball far too easily in the second half despite having momentum.
