| Slightly off topic but I really wanted Harry Siejka to perform, I thought he had a good kicking game when he came over but I now realise that for us to move forward we need to have Sammut and Godinet in the halves. Wildie to spell of the bench with McShane.
To stay on topic a positive is that Agent XIII or whatever is long gone of these boards (old news I know)

Think you will find his brother Pimpernel is filling the void!

| Quote ="FickleFingerOfFate"So you will understand that fans want to back the club, players and the coach but when the coach continually meddles with team selection and positions and comes out with geling issues.
Every man and his dog could see that Sammut and Godinet are the best HB pairing at the club and were starting to get things going, until Siejka got his passport and made one in.
To relegate Godinet to the bench as rotation hooker is bananas.'"
Mathers and Siejka are poor but I actually like Sammut as a 1, he and Walshaw were about the only positives against Hudds away.
If you get the right halves I think he would be best used there but at the moment the halves are not firing so he needs to play there.

| It was never purely about who the best halfbacks were though was it?
They may well be the best 6 & 7 but Mathers was going through a bad spell, McShane was playing 80 minutes etc....it was about trying to get the best balance and experimenting to see how things went...Sammut has done very well at full back (and is still a great option there for me) and we did win 2 VITAL games with those combinations.....away at Widnes....a bonus win if you like....where both Siejka & Sykes at HB played well and both gave big contributions in winning the game....as did Sammut at FB and Godinet at interchange hooker....
We don't know...Sammut may have been planned to go back into the halves earlier but real lack of wing options through injury has meant Mathers has stayed there.....I don't personally see the result of any of those 5 straight losses being any different if JS & PG had been the halves....
Sykes & Siejka between them definitely had their poorest collective game so far in the halves for me on Sunday so I wouldn't be surprised to see at least one of Sammut or Godinet back there on Sunday....

Now we have Riley and Owen for the wings, Mathers should drop back to FB and Sammut move in the halves. Godinet replacing Sykes would be a bonus but I wouldn't lay any money on it.

| Trouble is when you put Sammut at full back you practically do away with his off the cuff play that can turn a game on its head like you have when hes at six.Godinet is a waste on the bench and should be on from the start at seven and put Wildie as interchange with Mcshane.

No good that, you've put players in their right position, wouldn't work!

From what I have seen which I admitt is not every match he has more time and space to do the off the cuff plays at 1. Full back is now basically the traditional 6 working as a second receiver on both sides of the field with the lads wearing 6 & 7 both being traditional first receiving 7's.
If you can get the halves right I think that is where he must play (at 1) but until you do it is probably best to use him in the halves with Godinet.
I personally in if using him in the halves would use Owen at 1, I wouldn't have Mathers anywhere near a shirt.

Have you got Mick Carter's number, we could do with a coach that talks some sense

| Have to agree would use Owen at full back as for me Mathers wont get a new contract at the end of this season and its showing in his efforts.Owen also younger and faster at bringing the ball back up and wont be half hearted in effort though some have marked his card after one game as garbage.

| IMHO we need Sammutt and Godinet as the first choice half-backs. Mathers back to full back, as he is a waste of a shirt (and a liability) sulking on the wing, and have either Siejka or Wildie at interchange hooker with McShane.
