| Quote ="Wildmoggy"Spot on, they were very professional in what they did, and it was a real shame Grix made that error against Saints. We actually looked like a proper team and everyone seemed to know their roles and we saw the results of that. It was key to the evolvement of the team that they were replaced properly, and they haven't been. We tied down the likes of Ashurst, Fifita, Tupou, TJ etc to long term deals which was no mean feat for a club like ours, but to get the best out of them we need(ed) a top scrum half & Full back.'"
Indeed
Brough was seen as too good a chance to turn down but, a player in their mid - late 20's would have always been better.
Having said that, good halves are like rocking horse muck and almost impossible to find, let alone sign - just look at the England/ GB side, where we havent had a really good HB pairing since Edwards and Gregory were ripping it up at Wigan and even they weren't prolific at International level.
Just imagine if we'd had a pairing of their quality with todays forwards (well, maybe the pack of 2 years ago).

Did they? 16 members of the team were the same as they were in 2017 and 2016...

Well yeah that's why most clubs will always have to buy second rate Aussies in the main to fill the halfback roles. Even though it was Cas, it was good to see 2 young Brits in Trueman & Richardson yesterday. Trueman could be anything if he progresses, but getting back to our recruitment, would we ever be close to signing someone like Danny Richardson???

2011 Jermaine McGillvary – Huddersfield Giants

2019 Morgan Smithies – Wigan Warriors
How many of the others were shelved at that stage of their career.'"
Quote ="TheDreadnought"You can argue that Grix was a liability but I can argue Jowitt was and still is too inexperienced. Opinions eh.
Ask yourself why the club chose to sign two players and play them in front of Max and then the bigger of the two, would be have still ended in 5th (4 places higher than the year before) in 2017 if we played Jowitt over Grix?

Strange argument really ...
The 'Rookie of the Year' was probably 'unofficial' and the other list may be 'official', but it can't be 'Rookie of the year' because Sam Tomkins won it twice, and you can only have one rookie year.
Anyhow, I think Max has been really unlucky. When he's had a first team opportunity recently he's either had a stinker under pressure or got injured.
He is an SL quality fullback, although still lacking in experience.
If he doesn't get a good run for the next few weeks, it's definitely time for him to find another club. I hope he takes his chance to prove himself this time, whether he ultimately stays at Trinity or not.

I agree Max is a SL quality FB, and he was settling in nicely prior to us signing Grix.
He has made errors in some of his appearances since, tell me a player that hasn't - including THAT error by Grix the man who replaced him!; but you don't lose quality - just confidence. No wander he has lost some confidence with his stop start career at Wakefield, what player wouldn't have done?, but he gets slated on here when he makes no more errors than other players.
If I was him, at the end of my contract I'd be off like a shot, because I don't think he will be without offers from elsewhere.

There doesn't always have to be a conspiracy.
Why would the club give him a contract and then go out of their way to not play him.
More likely he's pretty good but someone else in the team was better.

| Who . Do yo think Walker looked a good full back at London because the coaching set up was better .Lose on Sunday that will be 4 wins in 21 matches that's going on for a full season and we have not played any of the strong teams yet

| I don't know if I'm looking back through rose tinted specs, but when TJ and Jowitt broke through, didn't they play some superb rugby together - Jowitt using his pace and a lovely cut-out pass to release TJ down the wing?
I have no stats to back this up - and it may have just been once or twice - but it sticks in my memory as being particularly joyous to see two young lads, products of the club, playing some great rugby together.
We seem to have stalled since then - and it's by no means all linked to Jowitt being second fiddle to Grix - but we do seem to have lost any fluidity and speed in attack.

| I’m biased as I love to see youth come through the system, especially local youth, my opinion and it’s not through rose tinted glasses, is that Max would be in our 17 week in week out. If players were replaced every week after a poor game then we’d need a squad of 50. There’s some cracking youngsters out there and local at the moment, the best I’ve seen for a few years and one of the selling points in my eyes is to show them that there is a positive pathway to the first grade and Max is a great example.

Correct. I have not seen anyone put TJ away as Max did . Very potent attack down the left side but apparently it warranted signing Grix. Don't get me wrong, Grix was a good player but that's not the way to develop homegrown talent, and it certainly stunted the progress of Jowitt.

| I think we should be putting Jowitt at stand off and Milky at 7 while Brough is out (and possibly beyond).
Milky can do his “thing” and Jowitt can throw the ball around and organise a bit of the middle which I think he did to some degree in the Shudds trial game. He looked good then and I just think it wouldn’t hurt.
Broughy isn’t doing it, so why doesn’t Chezzy put him at 6?

| Nah. Rose tinted glasses.
Grix put far more to both TJ and BJB.
There is also more to the game for a full back.
He got a good long contract to give him security. Everything else is down to him.
Personally I'm happy for him to play, but I don't believe there is some conspiracy to keep him behind Grix, Hampshire and Walker.

| You only have to look at saints and Wigan to see that a good mix of youth and experience/old heads is the way to go .you can’t expect max and the like to suddenly put stellar performances in when they are only getting the odd game .The only way our youngsters are going to improve and carry this club forward is to get them on the park as much as possible .

I think my my glasses must have similar lenses to Bren's.
I remember many of TJ's tries coming from superb combination play from him and Max.
I'd also agree that Jowitt looked quite lively at half back against Huddersfield and wouldn't be disappointed to see him given a shot there with Rocky at Fullback TBH.

Of course he did PT because he played farm more games than Jowitt when he was with us. I'm not saying who was better personally my single moan is that Grix held back Jowitt's progress.
As others have hinted at, I too would like to see Max given a chance in the halves.
