Did anyone or their family work there during the 70's/early 80's?

Also what was the safety training facility in Wakefield called? Was it at Stanley? Remember going there as a kid on saturday mornings with my dad.

Would it be worth putting it on the Cas forum? Would they have travelled that far?

I remember the bus coming round to pick the miners up for their shifts, we were only in Shepley though.

Been down Park Mill before but never at Emley

Be interested if anyone had any stories about the 2 pits, i know there are some ex miners on here

allerton bywater was the only training area for the mining that I can remember I did mine 1976

Is that the spot the deputies went?

Was that the safety training place?

besides being a working mine it also the start of every future miner from around the area walton, nostell, sharston, acton hall, lofthouse parkhill, prince of wales to name a few it also was a base for a main stores area and repair , training was also done there for craftsmen
their was another place that my father did train and that was oakenshaw pit just of the common near belle vue now offices, can't think of any other as I was a craftsman and my father worked up to be and overman on the night shift

Bet it was the one by Belle View then, they did the first aid there and training in case of emergencies underground, think it was 1 saturday every month.

My Dad worked at Lepton Edge till it closed, then moved to Park Mill and worked there until he unfortunally he suffered a heart attack down the pit and died in Pinderfields a short time after.That was in 76.

He worked regular afternoons and used to walk down from Bretton roundabout, quite a walk!, I would then pick him up at the end of his shift.

Although not a big sports fan he took me to my first match at Belle Vue and Iv'e been hooked ever since, can't even remember who we played , although it was not the first pro RL game I saw but thats another story.

I hold mine with precious memories, coming back to work after the year strike we all walked up to the pit baths at around 9 -00 am to be told that the day shift had to go home and the afternoon shift was to start at 12-00 noon,

so we all shoved our two fingers up and walked back home, happy days

again not in my area so wouldn't know, I do know that once come down from the roundabout down the hill doing about 70 on my 250 and a pheasant shot out of the pit entrance, its head was nearly took off, how I stayed on god only knows and the bird got away scott free

In the late sixties the wakefield No 7 area had 2 traing faces one at Lofthouse the other one being at Parkhill. I myself did my face training at Parkhill where I worked and when I went on to driving the shearer I had to go to Allerton Bywater for a weeks training on machines in the workshop prior to starting training back at the pit. Oakenshaw was part of Parkhill and for long enough was just a ventilation shaft as was Hoare Park for Walton.

I doubt it Castleford was in the no8 area of the Yorkshire coalfield whereas Wakefield was in the no7 area and the 2 pits you mentioned were in the no6 area

Brings back memories tha no's Mr Wilkes. Since that 1984 list 11 pits in the old Wakefield no7 area have shut down.

tried to find a photo no joy,
on a note of memories this ones a belter, years ago when they extend the shaft down on the no.1 shaft to the stanley main seam they came across a tree fossil, and they wouldn't sheet up around it, it was left on show until the pit closed, just looked like it was still stood

I do actually have a full set of mine plans for the Beamshaw seam and some of the Flockton seam here at home, there in colour too, ive got quite a bit of info on the "Fanny Pit" as well, i will post some bits tonight if i get chance
