The club have issued a statement that the RFL have informed them they will impose a 9 point deduction on the team for going into administration in December. Apparently there will be a further statement from the club detailing people & roles.

I think the 9 point deduction will come as no surprise but am interested in what the statement from the club will bring.

Gateshead are starting on -6 so how come you get -9?

I'm sooooo tempted to say it's because they are in an expansion area...
...but they volunteered to go back down a division to consolidate and get their house in order, so I don't know if they went into administration; we did, after we couldn't blag it with the taxman any longer.

Gateshead actually didn't go into administration, but actually formed again as an entirely new club. They could argue that they shouldn't have received any points reduction, as they joined C1 in the same circumstances as SW Scorpions.

...and they may well have made a good case. But then when did the RFL ever make logical decisions?
Although I don't remember the Scorpions volunteering to drop a division?

We formed as a new club also, the assets were transferred to the new company just a few days after the old one went in to administration.

That's what I thought. I can only think that Gateshead went to the RFL to form a plan but I still don't it's fair.

Gateshead went under because they were owed £120k. Where as we went under because we owed £183k. I can only think they were more sympathetic to Gateshead because of that and them going a down a division by choice.
