Bollox....
Yeah Stoopy was amazing ...BUT sorry can't go past the master himself...my childhood hero n the most under-rated player never to wear a GB shirt ..
[size=150Mr BRIAN JEFFERSON[/size
I rest my case ...
And actually thinking about it .... there is no way that anyone could vote subjectivly for a greatest ever Cougar /Keighley RL team ,so why are you trying ?
Jeffo, Ian Gatley ,Sam illingworth, ,Calvin Wilkes ,Graham Beale ,Trevor Skerrett, Joe Grima ,Rammy , Stevo and other significant others would be in my team because they are players I've been privaliged to watch on the Lawkholme Lane turf , but how can we compare those players to those that stand on legend alone ...
Hal Jones,Ted Spillane ,Norman Foster ,Geoff Crewdson, Harry Myers ,Terry Hollindrake ,et al, I have never seen those guys throw a rugby ball around , tackle a man , or take someone on on a one on one breakaway,...BUT
I fully recognise and respect their impact and major place in the Keighley RLFC history, and can understand how they possibly could or should find themselves as part of an all time `Keighley Xlll '
BUT I cannot ever make a comment on their rugby ability ,and would imagine no one else on here is old enough to either...so its actually a pointless thread really (unless you know the Bracken Bank version of Marty Mc Fly !)
Comments invited.....

| I can only vouch from 1991 onwards but it does say greatest COUGAR team.
1) Andre Stoop
2) Andy Eyers
3) Nick Pinkney
4) Simon Irving
5) Jason Critchley
6) Darrel Powell
7) Chris Robinson
8. Steve Hall
9) Jason Ramshaw
10) Joe Grima
11) Ian Gately
12) Grant Doorey
13) Martin Wood
14) Jonny Presley
15) Brendan Hill, for when Joe Grima inevitably got himself sent off.
16) Darren Fleary
17) Phil Cantillon
I don't expect anyone will agree, but it's the subjectiveness of the thread that makes it worthy of a good debate.

Replace number 4, with Andrew King and you are just about bang on.

He was only left out because the side needed a quality goalkicker and so it was either King or Irving, or replace Andy Eyres with John (voluntary tackle machine) Wassilew.

| Always difficult to judge and very subjective.
I started watching in the early 90's so can only realistically comment from that point on. Some of the names mentioned already are certainly up there but what about Nathan Antonik and (for a short time)Dean Hanger?
What about Darren Appleby? Had a string of really bad luck with injuries but that arcing run that cut Huddersfield wide open in the Div two final at Old Trafford was just sublime.
Ahhh memories..... now where is that video

Darren Appleby was a great player, but he never seemed to be as good after that very bad head injury he got.

We signed Appleby from you for a relatively large fee in about 1996, and he was without doubt the biggest let-down ever. He played about 10 games then vanished. Shame, as he had been a terrific player for your guys.

He sustained a head injury and had a fit on the pitch whilst playing for us, was never the same player again. A great shame.
He was not a rough n' tough player but had silky skills and great body movement that made him very elusive and deceptive.

| Danny Fearon - sheer class... Loose forward that promised so very much..and kept promising..
Jamie Fielden - Just like his brother in so many ways... Well at least they share the same surname...
Sonny Whakarau - left his best at wakefield....
Entertainment for the wrong reasons....

| I disagree, I though whakarau was pretty decent to be fair, what about Kevin 'magic' Marr?! One season at second row but thought he was very good.

| Greg Austin would have been up there, had he not started asking for silly money and then slagged us off at every opportunity when he went to Huddersfield.

| Have to agree with Rach that Jefferson is the best full back I have seen play for Keighley. Others are Nathan Antonik. Gately. Presley. Danny Jones, Steve Hall, Dean Hanger, Barry Eaton, there are more but that will do for now.
