He came in to coach a team packed with world class players with a recent history of winning things and got results. That's it.

When Hiddink came in, we were 2 weeks from playing Juve in the Champions League. Scolari's last game against Italian opposition resulted in a 3-1 defeat against Rome. We'd just been beaten 2-0 by Liverpool and the month earlier we'd been spanked 3-0 at Manchester United. A defeat to Juve was a serious prospect.
