The right decision

Cas haven't said they can't play due to Covid cases, they don't meet the required threshold to do so. They just said they can't raise a team, so according to the operational rules they have to forfeit the tie. That is why Saints get the 24-0 win. Our game was called off due to an above threshold number of Covid cases in the opposition squad so our game will be rearranged if possible or cancelled if it can't be fitted in.

I didn’t think a season could feel more manufactured than last year but with the All Stars debacle and the lob sided advantages some teams are getting, this one is going to give it a run for it’s money.

In the mission impossible Wigan played 4 games in one week and did not refuse to play a game!

They’ve got injuries in the first team but also said they can’t call from the academy because of covid isolation so technically they could raise a team but can’t because of covid.

That makes no sense.

The reason it is called off is because Cas cannot raise a team through a combination of injuries AND Covid, rather than through Covid alone (as per the threshold).

Where does the 24 come from? Is it a fixed penalty, or does someone just pull a figure out of the air?

its universal I think, used to be 18-0

No idea why that is the figure, but it is standard for all levels of rugby league. Personally I think it should be more like 80-0, to reflect that they would presumably have taken a real battering if they had played with what was available.

Correct there mate. We could have raised a 17 by including academy players but 2 have tested positive and all the rest have to isolate. Unfortunately academy players don't count towards the 7 needed to cancel.
